I think that northeastern teams get too much respect in the vast scheme of things.

If you watched that Duke/Syracuse game last night, you would know that both of those teams are vastly superior to anything we have in the SEC outside of maybe Florida.

Missouri ought to be running this league, but they are average at best. All that we hear is that SEC basketball is horrible year after year and we have teams with 20+ wins that don't get into the NCAAs because of poor RPI. But, then Missouri comes in, a team that has been well respected in recent years, and they are an average SEC team.

What gives?

We're currently in the donut hole of recruiting Mike Anderson left the program in. Haith has had to backfill with transfers, so it's a team desperately inadequate in the paint.

There's also a loss of passion within the fan base that traces back to Mike Alden's firing of Norm Stewart and hiring of Quin Snyder. Norm was Missouri, knew Missouri. Knew how to work the room and value of recruiting in-state talent. Snyder, and especially Anderson, had no desire to work the room and virtually refused to recruit the state, locally.

The decade-plus of arrogance and aloofness finally took their toll and now the many fans don't give a rip. In fact, they're mad local players like David Lee, Bradley Beal and Ben McLemore were ignored only to star elsewhere. So now not only does Frank Haith has the hot mess of rebuilding the recruiting trails, he needs to somehow reinvigorate a dispassionate fan base in a foreign (see non-Kansas) basketball conference. It's all taken it's toll.

Other Missouri fans may disagree with me, but that's how I see it..

I don't think many expected LSU to lose at home to Rhode Island and generally be the underachievers they have been prior to this week against UK.

Rhode Island's rpi is one spot behind UGA. It's not like they are in the 300s.

The SEC usually has 1 or 2 elite teams, and maybe 2 or 3 more tourney type teams. That's not terrible. But the bottom half of the league, in any given year, is definitely terrible. That doesn't mean the good teams aren't dangerous in March, as Cal and Donovan keep demonstrating. Also, from when I was younger, I remember a whole bunch of years where the SEC had some nasty teams. Corliss Williamson was the man.

But as has been said, the same can be said in reverse for football:

If SEC Football Is So Good, Then Why Did Mizzou Make The Conference Championship Game?

For the past decade, whenever a non-SEC team is weighed against SEC teams, it is assigned 2, 3+ more losses than what they accumulated in their own conference. Using this logic, 2013 Mizzou would have won 9 and lost -1 in the B12, where they were decent but unspectacular for years.

But losing only one regular season game? (because Connor Shaw went quasi-Christ and a kicker blew a chip shot, which doesn't mesh with the idea that non-SEC teams would crumble because an SEC schedule is too taxing and physical.) If anyone would have predicted that two years ago, they would have been laughed at.

Haith is the answer. Mizzou would be getting rolled vs Big 12 teams. Instead of losing by under 10pts, top half Big 12 teams would be beating Mizzou by 10-15pts. The year Mizzou did good in the Big 12 when Haith took over, that team had some talent, played together longer, etc. Haith is throwing transfers in there instead of getting his own talent and building a team.

Your superficial analysis is perfectly void of any context, in depth reasoning, and understanding of the nature of college basketball today.

Funny, nobody has called me little possibly ever?

Back on point, are you really saying Mizzou basketball historically was #1 or #2 in the Big 8 or Big 12? Seriously? Maybe you are the sad one.

Nope. Mizzou was, at best, the third best historical team in the Big 12.

But, once again you have shown your obsession with Mizzou. For reasons inexplicable to all, you just can't get Mizzou off your mind. It's sad, really. And a bit strange.

See, if more Mizzou posters on the Rant said this up front, they would catch way less flack in threads. Same could be said for TAMU talking about Texas stats and Mizzou talking Kansas stats. Who cares about Beef-0 and the Nutless Nine.

Cheesy, when was the last time Mizzou fans talked Kansas stats on the rant? Oh wait, we don't. We left Kansas behind.

So basically, Haith can't recruit worth a shite…so he has to go get transfers.

Recruiting is a part of coaching….Haith just sucks at it…look no further then Cal getting Devin Booker…for christ sakes, his dad was the man at Mizzou.

So you are saying Mizzou fans have never discussed their ex wife on here?

You have a great sense of humor!

No, I asked "When was the last time?" Here, I'll quote myself for you.

You seem to be claiming it's a regular occurrence. Something that happens often. Show me the proof.

What?

The Cuse yes….Duke No.

Only reason why Duke was able to stay in the game was they got crazy hot behind the arch.

They have no inside game, I think LSU, UK, Tenn, and Florida would take down Duke on a neutral court.

Duke ceiling this year in the tourney is the Sweet 16…maybe Elite 8.

They will get the ACC special and get to play virtual home which should get them to the Sweet 16. They will get Raleigh first, then NYC (second home for Duke) for regional.

It's just too easy to rope her in. You start talking about Mizzou, and she comes riding in. It's like she's searching for a rival... Someone to care about her. Turns out it's the SEC, and no one cares about basketball or basketball-only schools.

Lets compare that with other SEC programs not named Kentucky or Florida in their "down" years.

6 straight trips to the NCAAs is something that has never been done at Mizzou, this isn't "down" years, its the glory years of Mizzou's program.
