Overall . . . SEC basketball is the worse I've seen it in 20 years.

Meh, we are having a down year with a young team in a retooling season yet we are still upper middle of the pack with a bubble tourney team. Lets compare that with other SEC programs not named Kentucky or Florida in their "down" years.

I don't have anything against Missouri. I was just hoping that they would be a basketball power in the league and would help raise the profile of the SEC in what used to be a really great sport down here.

Looking forward to more games that matter.

Because Missouri is supposed to be good and the SEC is supposed to be terrible.

Kentucky and Florida are usually good, and other teams have good years, but the national perception is that SEC basketball is terrible.

My point is that SEC basketball might not be as bad as it is made out to be.

Kentucky went to the NIT last year.

Teams and programs have bad years. Mizzou is having a roster retooling season and a down year and is a bubble NCAA team and in the top 1/4 of the SEC.

Well, to be fair, we did beat you guys. Although, even in bad years, it's still really hard to win in Memorial. Hopefully both programs can get back on track and enjoy some good games in the future.

Everyone says it is horrible. Missouri was supposed to be really good and would be up there with Kentucky and Florida. But, Missouri is average at best in the not good SEC. What is going on? Either, Missouri isn't any good or the SEC is better than people say. It is a question about presuppositions.

That sounds a lot like the Bevo12 football argument. Mizzou avg, does well in SEC, SEC bad?

Because this year's Mizzou team is not as good as last year's, and last year's Mizzou team was not as good as the one the year before we entered the league that went 30-5. If you want specifics, and I doubt you do, this years team has no inside presence like last year's, and no senior leadership like our 30-5 team two years ago did.
/thread

Also, even though I'm the biggest Mizzou hoops homer you'll find and I guess I should find your using us as a guage flattering, the reality is closer to this: the mere fact that you would try to use anything Mizzou does as a barometer of the strength of the SEC is kind of umm...sad and a sign of everything that is wrong with this league. I don't think I ever recall in all our years in the Big Eight or Big 12 anyone in the conference going "wait, Mizzou is having an average season? Holy crap the Big 12 must be INCREDIBLY good this year!" Usually they just said "haha, Mizzou sucks this year, Muck Fizzou" and went on about their business, and we would have to listen to it until we regrouped and started winning again.

Umm, actually we were picked to finish 5th in the league this year behind LSU and Tennessee as well. We are doing what we were expected to do in that sense. On the other hand, I don't think many expected LSU to lose at home to Rhode Island and generally be the underachievers they have been prior to this week against UK.

I love how Mizzou not fricking around in the non-conference or dropping games to Rhode Island, SC-Upstate, Mercer etc like so many other teams in this league did is suddenly used against us. And here I thought you'd be grateful somebody actually took care of business enough in the non-con to give you at least a decent RPI boost when you played us. Whatevs.

Missouri was never going to be on the level of UK or UF. We'll have some years here and there, maybe. It won't be with Haith though.

We were rarely on the level of kU when we were in the Big 12. Thinking we'd be on par with UK or FLA is foolish.

I figured we'd add more depth to the basketball side of things, that's about it. Any MU fan that thinks we ever were, or are a "national power" in CBB, with the likes of UF or UK is sadly mistaken.

By same logic, the SEC is overrated in football because two average Big 12 teams came in and had immediate success. Can't have it both ways

Actually Mizzou came in and blew and A&M lost 6 games in two seasons with their best player in program history.

They did not run the Big 8 or Big 12, why ought they run the SEC?

Kentucky > Kansas > Missouri
Florida > Oklahoma State > Missouri

Kentucky > Florida > Missouri
Kansas > Oklahoma State > Missouri

I don't know how y'all can say that. Just look at his teams at Miami... Oh wait, now I see why you can say that.

According to whom?
