There would indeed be some reservations. I think Dabo would draw some serious consideration as well as any other top tier coach like a Jimbo Fisher. The only thing that would scare me off Smart is he hasn't had the pressure of being The Man. However, the good thing about where Bama sits in the college football world now versus where we stood in the fRan Shula years is that Bama is a top 3 job. Facilities and money pouring into the program makes it a very nice position to walk into (if you can handle the heat).

I think Smart takes a HC job before Saban retires..I am figuring 5 years and out for Nick.

With the kind of money we can throw around,we can get an awful lot of very good coaches...Fisher would be fine with me we will just have to see who is out there when the time comes.

Agree. I see Saban calling it quits within 5. Smart will probably have a mid level gig by then which wouldn't be a bad thing if he got his feet wet elsewhere as a HC before being called back to T-town.

In my opinion, our next coach would need to have at least 4 successful seasons as a head coach.

Why would Fisher come to Bama when Florida State is an easier road to the final four every year and can pay comparable money?

No flame, just asking.

I am not saying FSU is an equal job to Bama (though in the 1990s virtually no one outside of Alabama would have claimed FSU to be beneath Bama).

More money? Better facilities? Pretty easy to win at UA.

I love when people say this.

If a coach is looking for the easiest path to glory, he's not a very good coach.

Great coaches are focused on the challenge.

And FSU isn't loaded with talent? You stupid gump. You do realize that FSU is in Florida, right? FLORIDA, the hotbed of southern recruiting. Oh, and FSU can recruit nationally with anybody.

Gumps. There is no fan base like theirs.

Normally a copmetnat assistant is the best bet (see.... too many examples to mention) but Alabama especially seems to have a bad history with them. If Saban retires I think Alabama probably only rivals Texas, Ohio State or an un-probationed USC as a big time job and if Saban leaves after a title or two it's THE big job. I'd hope we go for the biggest splash possible since.... we can.

We're more loaded than FSU is right now. We're also bringing in yet another top 3 class this year.

ETA: You also didn't specify just Jumbo.

This is a really bad post. You sound like you're 9 years old. Please work on it.

Comparable money? FSU pays in the $2.7M range. Bama pays its current HC $6M+ and will likely pay his replacement somewhere in the $3.2-4.5M range depending on who that coach is.

Smart thinks it is his if he's still here. When Mal was alive he was right. Don't know now. Dabo would love a shot and would probably get a phone call. He'd do well at Bama because he can recruit really well and he's made good Asst. Coach hires, but he would HAVE to communicate that he would have a top notch DC (and name him) before an offer was ever extended.

I'm sure there would be candidates outside of those two, but those two would each be in the 30% range to get the job if you had to put odds on it.

Honestly Dabo probably has the 2nd best chance after Smart.

I have been praying that Dabo has a great year just prior to Saban leaving. I would love for another Shula era
