Winning your conf. is an automatic bid into the playoffs. That Is having 100% control.
The set criteria would be that if you win your conference, you're in.

who cares? you still have to win your conference.

this scenario would result in the rankings meaning very little and the conference championships meaning everything, which would make the regular season meaningful as well as the playoffs

That's fine, but you would still have to figure out who is the best independent/mid-major team. There is no way to figure that out. I understand an 8 team playoff with all 5 conference champs getting in along with 3 at large because then the regular season matters along with the non-conference.

exactly. I'd rather a committee vote for 3 at large teams than all teams.

who the frick cares about the at large teams other than the teams that are on the bubble and in the smaller conferences?

the playoff as it is now is stupidly structured.

What's really sad is that cfb has been around for over 100 years and we still have teams that can go undefeated and not get a shot for the national title. It's crazy that coaches and players have almost no control over whether or not they are even in the playoffs/bcscg.

A friend and I were talking about this last week.

We came to the conclusion that the playoffs should consist of 8 teams.

5 conference winners

3 at large bids to keep top rated teams that shite the bed going into the last few weeks of the season from missing the Playoffs.

so if everyone agree with the conference champions plus 3 at large...why was the current playoff designed the way it is?

Which won't happen, because UF will be in Atlanta.

The reason they don't do this is because everybody would schedule cupcakes for their all of their non-conference games. Would be very boring football outside of conference play.

If they made Big 5 conference winners a guaranteed entree??

It would be the exact opposite. You would have nothing to lose in OOC, so why not schedule USC and Ohio State?

Everyone agrees... Missouri is a middle-of-the-pack football team. Your biggest rival is Kansas, for Christ's sake.

Kansas.

I was thinking that teams would try and avoid getting injured so they would try and play against teams where your best players can get more rest. I guess playing good teams makes some sense, so your players could get the experience of playing in a big game, but it would be tough knowing that the outcome doesn't matter at all.

I have no idea, but if the playoff is 6 teams, 7 and 8 are going to be pissed. If it's 8, 9 and 10 will be mad.

Look at the NCAA tourney, there are always teams pissed off they didn't get in, and they have 64 plus a play-in game...

There will always be teams that feel like they got shafted, no matter what they do.

If they beat an undefeated State, the fighting Daks would still get in the 4.

Exactly, not to mention a good reason for 9 conference games and home field advantage in the first round.

i don't think there's a west division team mizzou can beat ... if the unthinkable happens in the seccg, then the sec doesn't deserve a team in the playoff ...
