They could have hired any coach that wanted. They just really wanted Mark Pope.

Duke hired Jon Scheyer.

North Carolina hired Hubie Davis. Dont recall any of you figs in an uproar over those blueblood hires.

Well, this is the SEC rant.

Based on the downvotes I would say this is true.

Duke? Their history is all Coach K. UNC, UConn, and Kentucky are top 3 to me.

From the old guy in the room ...

Kentucky is all by itself
Indiana is up there but killed by ESPN to pimp UConn and the ACC
Kansas is in the Top 4
North Carolina is in the Top 4 but it was NC STATE that was Tobacco Road

UConn (men and women) without ESPN founding in CT would not exist
Dook (men and women) would not exist without ESPN

With UK in the SEC and UL in the ACC, that may take the place UK vs IU held before ESPN. If IU ever gets it together again (and the B1G quits pumping BuckNuts and MeatChicken CFB) the Hoosiers still can sell tickets. Not sure any B1G basketball school can do that over time (MSU with Izzo is still just a 1 coach story).

Big East was the value in college sports media before the CFA monitized the NCAA monopoly (and broke the NCAA) for college football to pass college basketball. So UConn is probably here to stay.

The most telling "brand" value is cost of tickets from street scalpers (sans Ticketmaster and Stub Hub types) and this is where Dook and UCLA fail the smell test.

Many on here thought it was over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor.

Truth means little here, just look who voted a scoundrel in as POTUS because they believed the media!

I would say Gonzaga has benefited from the media as well despite still without a title.

I remember when Arkansas played Gonzaga and it was featured on the Jimmy Fallon show. It was about Gonzaga the whole time.

We just saw a very good Auburn team

Not this again.

AU wasn’t one of the hottest teams in the country, Foy. We tried to tell you with definitive facts. You guys were way overhyped, and all the teams I mentioned that were the “hottest teams in the country” heading into the NCAAT actually won their first round game (and believe all made the 2nd weekend). Time to let it go.

Good maybe he will care about winning titles and final fours instead of lottery picks.
