So many threads from Alabama fans about his extension...

So many sand granules in Auburn fans ears.

I don't disagree with that. I think it was a vote of confidence. Maybe had something to do with questions coming from Big Cat Weekend.

Yeah I don't know what he's talking about. Dude is an elite recruiter and brought in some great WR talent this past year. Just an average coach.

I heard you. Your logic is stupid though. I've made it clear in the thread on the AU board that I don't see the motivation behind the extension. But to say it's not about recruiting because we let DC go is beyond stupid.

Make a better argument and maybe I'll agree with you.

Never said he wasn't. Just that he statistically he wasn't even our best recruiter on staff as implied by the post I responded to in this thread.

You said things that diminish what he's done and implied that he's only thought of as a great recruiter because of 1 or 2 kids that he's landed.

So which do you want to go with? Great recruiter or not?

Put it this way: Was recruiting a priority when Kodi Burns was selected to replace DC? An unproven former player?

Don't get me wrong. Burns might turn out to be a great position coach/recruiter, but somebody in Auburn is pissing on your heads and telling you its raining. And a large group of AU people are truly believing its rain.

Think about this too Weagle.. how many AU recruits with SEC offers are sitting at home thinking, "gee, Auburn just extended Malzahn. He's SURELY not going anywhere regardless of what happens this season."

Yes. That was primarily why he was hired.

That decision has nothing to do with this decision.

You can say "We need a better coach at WR coach instead of a recruiter" and still have recruiting as a main priority.

And I'm pretty sure DC left because he didn't see an opportunity to advance at Auburn as long as Malzahn was there so not much we could do there even if we wanted to keep him.

That argument I can get on board with. In fact I've said the same thing on the AU board. Your other argument is shite.

Not sure what difference it makes when you do an extension, though. I mean, does it really matter when you add 1 year? I would say the off season is the time to do it. It would have been odd to do it in the middle of the season. Just my thoughts.

Usually you see the extensions at the end of a season in response to vacancies that might be attractive to the candidate. But nobody was beating down our door for Gus in December and it would've been odd to give him one on the heels of a 6-6 season. That's why I think it was done in conjunction with Big Cat Weekend (or shortly thereafter).

It's weird because we guarantee him more money without really seeing any benefit from extending him. If we had done it when we were hiring coaches, it would have made more sense.
