A defensive end by himself is not enough to win a title. Neither is a qb.

Are yall nutts? QB is half the team. Im not saying he can do it on his own but he is half the team. If you have a great qb like Cam was....you can win a chip with a mediocre team as long as your qb is stellar. On the flipside if your QB sucks...and your team is awsome...(SC) you will be mediocre.

Football= the ultimate team sport. No one player, regardless of position can do it with crap around him.

there is a difference between crap and mediocre. I didn't say Cam could have done it with Crap. He had decent/mediocre players around him. and Ingram fumbled

No QB in the SEC was taken out earlier than Johnny against Auburn, State, or Arky. Johnny misses 8 whole quarters, more than any starting QB in the country.
I'm convinced you didn't even watch these games.

Against MSU, Manziel played all but the last series. He missed 4 minutes.
Against Arkansas, Manziel played all but the last 2 series. He missed 7.5 minutes.
Auburn is the only one where he played only one series in the 3rd Q.

Total, he didn't play in roughly 3 quarters.

Lately it's been less and less about who's the best individual player in college football (what it was intended to be about), and more about who's the best player on the best college football team. And those are two very different things....

It's allowed outside influences to hold sway over the committee at the Downtown Athletic Club to suit their own personal agendas (ESPN). I have less respect for the award than I used to have 20 yrs ago....

Like LaTech?

Like the game Sumlin had him kicking PATs trying to pad his stats?

Oh, people actually care that he was taken out at half against South Carolina State? Or missed the 4th quarter against SMU? Or played one series in the second half against Sam Houston State?

AJ McCarron missed the 4th against Florida Atlantic. Was taken out midway thru the 2nd quarter against Western Carolina. Played only the first 4 minutes in the 3rd against Arkansas. Played one series in the 3rd against Auburn. Missed half the 4th against Missouri. Didn't play in the 4th against UT. Didn't play in the 4th against MSU.

You don't see 'bama fans constantly bringing this shite up over and over and over.

Oh, and AJ played less against Arkansas, Auburn, & MSU than ole Manziel did like the other aggie tried to claim.

The barn would have post to Oregon without scam. He was a third and short to medium machine. Dyer up the middle for 3, McCaleb fly sweep for 3, and scam drop back then scramble and fall forward for the first down. Repeat, repeat then play fake to Dyer and throw to wide open Adams.

I was talking about their general game play for the season, and I did watch the game pullin like a MOFO for the ducks. He didn't have a huge game statistically but him being in the backfield as a threat does a hell of a lot for the rest of the offense.

There's 22+ starters. Takes more than one player to win a championship.

I understand that Auburn had a good D-line and a ton of experience, but I firmly believe Cam Newton carried that team.

He did, you're right.

Plus Auburn got what every team gets that wins MNCs ... they got a lot of breaks that year. The ball bounced their way a lot of times.

I was at the South Carolina at Auburn game that year and Cam took that game over and won it for them. That and Garcia just flat gave it away with two late fumbles ... although it is hard to be angry about either of them because both times he was fighting for extra yardage. But Cam just kept doing his thing in that game - it was his breakout game. Nick Fairly definitely contributed on the other side of the ball as well.

No it's easy to still be angry about those fumbles. Two consecutive drives he lower his he'd like the dumbass he was and lost us the game over a total of 5 meaningless yards.

You do realize Auburn gave you two fumbles as well, right? Both of which were in Auburn territory?

USC will be in contention for the national title this year. I firmly believe that.

I do too ... and probably for the same reasons as you.

It's because SC is loaded this coming year, another possible first round draft pick on the other end of the line opposite Clowney in Chaz Sutton. A potential All-SEC DT in Quarles, a potential All-SEC DB in Victor Hampton. A couple of solid WRs returning. We've got an experienced OLine returning, decent talent at all positions.

The only unknown in my eyes is our Special Teams, and that is so important towards contending for a big season ... I just don't know.

Still yet, it comes down to catching the breaks.
