Carr Consulting went to each UAB coach and asked them what they needed to succeed in the future. Obviously, each coach gave their dream list, unwittingly knowing that it was going to be used against them in the future.

Crazy asking football coaches what it would take to be successful at football. Somebody needs to investigate CarrConsulting for dereliction of duty or something.

I'll give you the Magic City Classic but that's literally the super bowl of HBCs and that demographic is a little more comfortable and welcome at legion field than most.

So all the white UAB students should get a pass for not supporting the team because they aren't as comfortable going into a poor black neighborhood as AA&M and ASU fans.

Is this conversation still going on?

Let's just sum it up honestly:

1) LSU fans and Auburn fans absolutely did not give a flying frick about UAB until they found a narrative that they thought could give them trolling material. Had this situation arisen in some state with some universities they didn't care about, this topic would have died a quick death if it even arose at all;

2) Nobody believes they give a flying frick now. They don't even believe it themselves, and the harder they try to wax outraged about it, the more it resembles bad parody;

3) Bama fans need to just leave it alone because they're giving the LSU and Auburn fans exactly what they want, a reaction to the trolling. Y'all need to let it go. It's just that simple;

4) All this mealy-mouthed fake concern of TEH JUSTICE OH EM GEE! is an insult to the actual players and staff at UAB who deserve better than to be used as tools by tools trying to troll;

5) Alliteration is awesome.

If you kept reading you would see where I mentioned the Classic.

One game, that is literally the Super Bowl of Historically Black Colleges and Universities is a little different than an entire seasons worth of home games.

Did you know that people reserve hotel rooms for the MCC a year in advance? 2 years ago my buddy tried to plan a bachelor party and didn't realize the Classic was the same weekend. We tried to rent out a suite and were told by every hotel downtown were told they had all been booked for months. We couldn't find a decent room anywhere in Birmingham.

Not to mention the crowd at the Magic City Classic is a different demographic than UAB students and is a little more at home and welcome by the residents of the area surrounding Legin Field.

Comparing that one single game to UABs season is apples to oranges. Or as you said "stupid fricking post is stupid fricking post"

Yes, college students should get a pass for being concerned about their safety.

It's a public institution and it should be acting to the benefit of the public. I just don't understand how it is in Alabama's or Birmingham's interest to have the sort of school that they seem to want it to be. A research institution/hospital is great, but having that along with a strong undergrad presence is better.

I did a survey. See if you can spot the problem

Percent share of FBS team fanhood in state of Alabama

Alabama Crimson Tide - 55%
Auburn Tigers - 44%
Troy Trojans - 0.7%
South Alabama Jaguars - 0.3%
UAB Blazers - statistically insignificant

I was also going to search on AL.com for the articles about all the killings and rapes and car break-ins that occurred that day, but I got lazy. Feel free to do that yourself also.

Clearly no one thinks the BoT is involved --- even though they appointed the president.

One more little link then I will give up on this since it is now too late anyway.
The study Carr gave UAB was 9 pages long.
The one they did for James Madison University was over 60.

LINK

quote:

First, the question put to Carr Sports was clearly "how do we cut football," not "should we cut football." The focus of the report is how to cut football while maintaining Title IX compliance and making a good argument for UAB to stay in its conference. It clearly started with a conclusion and worked backward from there.

LINK

quote:

"I think this is the worst thing that can happen for football in Birmingham," said Ramsay's Nelson, who also coached receiver J.J. Nelson at Midfield. "Clark came in and did a great job of doing what he could to support Birmingham athletics and for city coaches and players to lose a local Division I team is terrible.

LINK

quote:

"Hopefully they have been proactive in having discussions with the Atlantic 10 or another conference," said Adrien Bouchet, a sports administration professor at the University of Tulsa. "I personally don't think they have thought this part through."

quote:

UAB would be forced to leave Conference USA if it moves forward without football, according to the conference's by-laws. Conference USA decided in 2005 that all conference members must play football at the Football Bowl Series level or be in the process of moving to that level.

quote:

If forced to leave Conference USA, the options are limited for the school. The Atlantic Sun, Sun Belt, Southern Conference and Missouri Valley are the most likely landing places. The Sun Belt could be a good fit geographically and has an odd number of teams at 11 members, but it is unclear whether the conference would be interested in adding a basketball-only school.

Effectively, UAB athletics has been killed. It will not change. Alabama fans will claim no one cares or make snide jokes. But this is a shite way to treat a university under your umbrella.

If you do not consider part of UAB part of the UA family, for God's sake let it go.

Is there any way that UAB, as a university, could secede from the University of Alabama system. Years ago here in South Carolina, Coastal Carolina University in Myrtle Beach was part of the University of South Carolina system but became independent of USCe. They complete in Div. 2 in sports of course, but if UAB seceded and dropped to Div. 2, couldn't they still be viable and keep football? Just a thought.

Congrats on the 20 new fans

Alabama had a contract to play games at Legion field as recently as 2008... but, the contract was broken before the games were played because of the fact that much of the stadium is structurally unsound... but, yeah, UAB was supposed to fill it up or get shut down.

They were cancelled because they removed an upper deck at LF which caused it's capacity to be significantly lower than BDS.
