This NCAA would never do that. This NCAA will give him a two day practice ban and fine UM 10K.

The old NCAA would have suspended him the rest of the season, docked 20 scholarships over 2 years and banned them from postseason for 2 years.

No one knows what happened yet.

If they took pictures of playsheets with advanced cameras then had a guy telling staffers what play was being pointed at on the playsheet or they knew what certain motions led to certain plays because they had tons of info then yes.

There is an ESPN article about one of Michigan's staffers. In it says a big ten source says it's worse than the patriots and astros. That isn't being released IMO unless it's serious

Michigan is too big for the NCAA to actually punish them. So Missouri will get a bowl ban instead

It's OCT 20 ... You expect the NCAA to move on something in the next 10 wks. It'll be quick if something is mentioned by June

No. If someone is dumb enough to get their signals stolen then they deserve it. It's no different than knowing what plays teams run when lined up a certain way. They can still change it last second before it can be relayed to the team.

They were actively sending people to future opponents games and recording signals and plays. That's not ok....

That's when you reverse the signals and do the opposite of what they think is about to happen.

Go figure a Barn rat would be ok with it after trying to sign steal their way to a Natty.
Go figure. A Bama fan accusing a team of stealing signals because things didn't go their way. Besides Bama was stealing signals for the Iron Bowl in 2010 until Auburn swapped them at halftime.

If during the game you figure out signals, that's not illegal.

They are claiming that Harbough has people go to opponent games and watch their sidelines to steal the signals in advance. Sending scouts to an opponent's game (or practice) for the sole intent of signal stealing is in fact illegal by NCAA rules.

This. However, I'll have to see the NCAA do something before I'll believe it. Other than declaring random players ineligible, they have become a toothless tiger.

stealing signals is done all the time on all levels for a long time. if ncaa says no advanced scouting then that is a problem if the school payed someone to report back. my son coached in the big 12 for 10 years, it was standard practice during the game to have someone picking signals. nothing wrong with it. i was on the sideline for games and can tell you TAMU had signals on offense and i would watch and make mental notes. after 2 or3 series i had a good idea what the play was going to be.

This would certainly explain why Harbaugh has shite the bed in bowl games at Michigan.

I don't think they would get a playoff ban, but they could force them to vacate a few games and put it on the Big Ten to see if they would be allowed into the Big Ten Championship game. They did change the rules for Ohio State in 2020 to be allowed into the Big10 CG.

A major college football team with coaches making millions and umpteen analysts and shite should be able to come up with an indecipherable system so this is not a problem.

In an ultra competitive league with a lot of turnover in which your RB coach who knows your whole fricking offensive system from A-Z might go to your rival the next year, how is signal stealing an issue? Staffs should be experts at changing up signals, terminology, tendencies, etc., regularly in order to avoid teams catching on to them.

And you can bet your arse if I was the HC at an SEC school making 8 figures I would have someone whose sole purpose in life was studying my rival’s team. Watch and break down their film all day, go to their games, etc.

If Oklahoma plays Harbaugh in the playoff, he can coach. But OU gets to bug his phones in the press box; it has to be better than stealing signals.

"old NCAA"

Would have swept it under the rug then found an FCS school to "make an example of".
