To the original question, I would make a strong argument that Alabama is the greatest college football program of all time RIGHT NOW. 4 years ago, I think Notre Dame would have been the answer. So it's not a question with a permanent answer.

As to the greatest program of any sport, that question has no basis of comparison. I wouldn't try to argue that Alabama is the greatest in that conversation even if we DID have meaningful criteria to judge...which we don't.

No, people are laughing at you.

And thinking Bama will somehow reach Yankee, Packer, or Laker status is one of the reasons.

I never said they would. It's literally my entire point. That goal can always be hanging there to chase, and we'll probably never get it.

Well, it's hard to argue against the fact that Bama is WELL on our way to doing just that.

3 NCs in the last 4 years (only 3rd time to ever happen).

Probably gonna win it again this year.

3 PEAT in the making (never been done even though Bama has been screwed out of it twice before).

No signs of slowing down. If Saban coaches till he's 70, Bama will have at least 5 more NCs.

These are all facts.

Much as I hate to admit it, they are the greatest college football program of all time now.

Not even close.
Notre Dame, Oklahoma, USC, Ohio State, Michigan and Nebraska come to mind.

Maybe the stinkiest, dirtiest, most cheating ever, yes.

We're still far away from being considered the equal of those teams that were quoted, and even further away from being equal with some I mentioned earlier.

The irony of this comment is that it is not only false because we can claim more recognized national titles than anyone (on ANY standard not created by an aub), but we CAN'T claim to be the dirtiest even in the state of Alabama. It is a fact that auburn has been on probation more frequently than us.

Talk about living in a delusion.

Alabama could never reach the status of pro teams. They could win every game for the next century, but its still against amateurs. 90% of their opponents won't make it into the NFL. Most of the others will not last long.

I find the question of who is the "greatest program of all time" to be pointless. You can't even answer reliably the question "who is the greatest NBA player of all time?" To try to cross sports and argue without any agreed criteria is just silly.

I'd just like to mention that no, the Lakers are not the greatest NBA team. It's the Celtics.

I imagine that number is higher.
