You should start a new thread...As The Plains Get Hacked....that's right up your alley.

Yes. The word "hack" implies that some devious outside source was responsible.

Did you know, words have more than one definition or meaning. But in this case, you are somewhat correct in this incident. Would this have ever made it to the public eye and a secondary if some

outside source {wasn't] responsible.

Why not just admit a simple mistake was made and quit acting like you are incapable of ever doing anything wrong? It amounts to nothing in the scheme of things so I don't know why it's that hard to admit a mistake.

If the NCAA hasn't told them they have to, why would they? Just simply fix the mistake and move on... It's not that big of a deal.

People seem to think hacking is some super intense takeover of websites.

A hack can be as simple as accessing web pages that a website does not want public yet. Auburn had queued up info pages for all possible commits that day. The only way you could view Evans page was to enter in the exact URL, which someone did and took a screenshot of. It was dumb on AU's part and they reported it. End of story

I don't think there's an official guide to lay people's adoption of computer slang, but I believe there's a fairly common understanding of "hack" that must involve a person intentionally attempting to access a secured "area" (database, site, application, what have you.) Typing in a URL that is in a public environment but not advertised to the general public is not a hack.

This is no way refutes the current standing argument of "Who gives a frick?"

except it has evolved into much more than that. Hack is used quite routinely as a workaround with tech. Hell even more than that, you hear quite regularly with everyday stuff, ie "life hacks" etc..

Shitty media then, since they said they were hacked by the media.

I'm sure you can internally handle the media. Do you think your writers being moved around had anything to do with it?

Not in the corporate IT world where I work. A "workaround" is finding a technical (or process) solution to an issue with an application, site, etc. A "hack" is when someone successfully attempts to access a secured area.

That being said, it's a fine line where a misuse of a term eventually becomes its generally accepted meaning. The term "hack" among the general public means whatever people think it means. The one point at issue is whether this was the result of a bug, process error, etc. or an intentional manipulation of the site from outside.

That will be critical to determining whether the NCAA ignores this, or considers typing a sentence somewhere pointlessly documenting a minor infraction, and THEN ignoring it.
