So you seem to be saying that any critique of the other team's coaching in a game is irrelevant ?
Is criticism of Nick Saban verboten ?
Is it not relevant ?
He just gets a pass for having his team wound so unbelievably tight and calling/playing a FEAR-BASED GAME, in the biggest freakin game of the year ?
Are you guys Bama fans or Scientologists ?

Quality post and I agree with the "Fear Factor." It's the main reason he was a miserable failure in the NFL. Grown men making five million per year aren't going to be afraid of him.
Also, not much was made of Saban playing for OT at the end of regulation, instead if going for the win. They had plenty of time to get into position to kick a FG. Even the announcers were shocked he didn't call time out and try to score.

Fear of throwing an INT. And a well-founded fear I might add

Les might be goofy, but I believe that he is a very good coach. And he seems like a very likeable person. And I do believe that his players feed off of his easy demeanor. Seems like they really like the guy.

Good for Les.I'm happy for him.

Saban is the next big game Bob. You know back in early 2000's Stoops won a title and they have been in a BCS game or Championship almost every year but always mess it up. How many times does Miles have to out coach Saban before yawl quite with the LSU is mad because we stole Saban. I'm not mad but I'm enjoying the fact that we have the best coach. Last night would have really mad me want to go to Bama if I were a player. NOT

That OT was self-fullfilling prophecy.
BAMA had no shot.
They were not playing to win.
They were playing NOT TO LOSE.
Again, at it's core, a FEAR-BASED response.
Saban's FEAR of losing that game to Les Miles OVERWHELMED him.
His assistant coaches and players picked up on that fear at all the key moments.
FEAR turned a winnable game into a soul-crushing LOSS.

Saban has been outcoached by a few coaches, including Miles. I don't think that was the case last night.

This didn't happen. You're mad about 5 year old news.

Then talk about your great coach, not about Saban.

Chill. The only one scared to death was Cade Foster. That's why the game went to overtime, and why LSU won. Congrats, it was a great game, but you need to chill out.

False dichotomy.
We can, and we DO, talk about both.
This is the SEC RANT.
It's a democracy here, not one of those psuedo-North Korean boards you Gumps run that ban criticism of The Dear Leader, Kim Il Saban.

This is a wise thread, but the bama fans refuse to see it. Part of that is based on the fact that people in Alabama are used to dictatorial rule. They had it with George Wallace, they had it with Bear Bryant and now they have it with Saban. It's all they understand.

Nothing about the program at BAMA says "fun." It says "work."

This is the excact reason Auburn, who had no business in the game during Iron Bowl 09, took bama down to the wire that year. Saban was coaching not to lose....

It's also the reason Auburn won last year. You can't coach not to lose against an offense like AU's last year. It bit Saban big time in their last two home losses.

Oh well, I'd still rather have him as our coach than anyone else in the nation.

Great thread.

I wouldn't go so far to say that his fear-based coaching never works in big games... they did beat Texas for the NC...

but it does seem that in the long-term it grows weary on the players and his coaches. Even he has admitted to back of "it" (he called it intensity). But when in doubt... resort to what you know...

Since the OP compared Saban to Miles... I wonder which kids "enjoy" their college football careers more? Have you even heard Saban use the word "enjoy"?
