Bottom line: Who would you want as your coach, Grant or Pearl ? If you say Pearl then STFU, if its Grant, please explain.
Where did Grant/Alabama come from in this thread? I don't think that you heard me or any Bama folks beating our chests over our basketball program like Auburn fans have since the Pearl hire. Y'all were the ones crowing about your Bball future.
So answer the question, who would you rather have at this point ?

I don't understand this thread. Who let's Alabama fans smoke them up on basketball? Alabama is laughable in every non-softball and maybe like gymnastics sport (I'd be willing to bet that no Bama poster under 28 has ever even seen their men's basketball team play a game). Who cares what their non-discerning fans have to say?
Now if the Kentucky fans or Arkansas fans don't like your coach, there might be an issue.

quote:I don't want either one of them. I wouldn't touch Pearl with a ten foot pole and posted such BEFORE Auburn hired him (look it up). I was a Grant supporter his first couple of years, but have soured on him mainly because of his inflexibility to change within the program. I suspect after this year, we'll be in the market for our own new guy.

As a Tip-Off club member, I was at the luncheon we had for Coach Rupp his last year at Kentucky when they came to town to play Alabama. I was in Montgomery at the Cow Palace when Alabama became the first team to ever lay 100 points on a Kentucky/Rupp team. I watched CM Newton make Alabama a formidable opponent on the national stage and was in Baton Rouge at the NCAA regionals the night Alabama let Bobby Knight's undefeated national champion Indiana team off the hook with under 2 minutes left in the game. I would go into the "Wimp years", but I think you get my drift. I've been around more basketball in my life than 99% of the folks on this, or any other sports forum, so.....you can call me a lot of things, but "non-discerning" isn't one of them.

I bet you hated it when Texas Western/UTEP won the National Championship. Changed everything for you.

it is possible I trolled or got caught up in the Bruce hype and spoke out of place. I don't really remember.
However, if we get our 7 footer in December and win 9 ooc games, we might have a shot at the bubble if the sec is as week as it was last season.

So now that you lost in embarrassing fashion, it was all a big ruse. Classic Rant.

Also, your big gotcha post wasn't a claim I made that we would dance, it was an "if" we are good enough to win 8 or 9 with a pretty tough ooc schedule we should win enough to dance given the state of the sec.

Winning 8 games in non-con and predicting a tournament berth is a pretty big claim. You still sticking with that?
Posted on 11/18/14 at 1:46 pm to Stonehog
I didn't predict we would win 8 non conference games. If we do, with our non-con schedule, we have a shot at it.

That's where you're wrong. If you only manage 8 non conference wins with that schedule, there's no way you win enough SEC games to even be on the bubble.

You are probably right, we likely need 9 ooc wins.

UT was 9-4 against a similar ooc schedule last year and made it to the sweet 16.

Jackpot? Is this some sort of emotional currency for you?

They won 11 SEC games. Auburn would need a better OOC record because they aren't winning 11 SEC games this year.
