Virginia Tech
NC State
Miami

UNC/OK State/Texas Tech/UVA/

Since we already have USCe, Clemson doesn't add much, nor would GT. VT and NCState take the conference into new markets. Miami wraps up Florida and marginalizes FSU.

I guess you could add Kansas, so Vandy would have someone to beat up on in football.

Not one of those schools brings a true Southeastern quality to the league. The SEC has roots, and those roots are what give the league its passion. Those schools would not add to the league's passion. That would be true with UT and OU if not for Arkansas and A&M.

Baylor???

I’d rather SMU, Houston, Rice, Memphis, ECU, Tulane, UCF, Cincy, Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State, Okie Lite, TCU, Texas Tech, Colorado, Arizona, Arizona State, App State, UNT, Texas State, UTSA, UTEP, and Hawaii before them. Baylor and Waco are trash.

Note to self... Texas fans are extremely easy. And by "easy" I mean "male or female, instead of saying, 'hello' and shaking your hand they lay down, spread their legs, and say, 'I NEED YOU INSIDE OF ME.'"

Duke and Baylor would be useless additions. I do not think MIami adds much either.

UNC, UVA because they add big markets...Clemson has lots of viewers and success in the 21st century. Maybe F$U for the 4th addition.

Florida State - Both sides have wanted it for some time, and outside of Clemson, they're the closest option to an SEC program.

Tulane - An ex-member with historical ties to the conference, and in addition, they would be the Vanderbilt of the West. Plus, everyone deserves a mulligan, and annual trips to New Orleans sounds enjoyable, etc.

Georgia Tech - See above (minus the part about being a private school and New Orleans, etc.).

Texas Tech - I'm not a fan of killing off the ACC, because we've had (and still do) cordial relations with them. As a result, I'd rather see us grab the third flagship in Texas, and ultimately, kill off the Big XII. Plus, the Hateful 8 and Big XII fans are extremely annoying (especially with the nonsensical belief that they're the best conference outside of the SEC and B1G).

P.S. Notable Alternatives: Assuming Georgia Tech doesn't leave the ACC, I would take Oklahoma State, and call it a day. Again, I don't think it's in the best interest of the SEC and ESPN to kill off the ACC. Whereas, killing off the Big XII gives ESPN an angle to take the remainders into the Pac-12 (or whatever they're angling for out west).

Texas Tech University isn’t a flagship.
That’s not an insult; flagships in Texas are operationally defined and identified by the state lege.
The University of Houston is closer to achieving said status than is TTU.

In terms of facing the Red Raiders as an opponent … these are the closest cities to Lubbock:

267 miles to Fort Worth, TX.
279 miles to Arlington, TX.
282 miles to Oklahoma City, OK.
294 miles to Juarez, Mexico.
295 miles to El Paso, TX.
295 miles to Albuquerque, NM.
295 miles to Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.

I can all but guarantee you 99% of SEC fans would never travel to Lubbock to see their teams play.

Texas Tech has little (to nothing) to offer the conference as compared to more geographically desirable options.

Well, my bad... not really. Y'all have a dozen or so university systems within the state, so it's easy to be confused... . Now, with that being said, it doesn't change my position on the matter, and again, it's not in the interest of ESPN to kill off their investment in the ACC and the ACC Network, nor is it in the interest of the SEC to kill off a neighbor that routinely sides with us on most matters.

I hear you; I wasn’t attacking you. Apologies if my response came across as such.

Tech is a decent, middling program who would fit in well in several conferences. The SEC just doesn’t happen to be one of them.

Side note: Texas is home to only six university systems (University of Houston System, University of North Texas System, University of Texas System, Texas A&M University System, Texas State University System, Texas Tech University System), not a dozen or so.

Of course, speaking about the overall 268 colleges and universities in the state is another story ….

I'd want Ohio State because it would cause the collapse of the newly expanded Big conference but mostly because I'd love to see their fans moan about 8 wins every year with no shot at any title ever.

I'd take Duke for hoops and to give Vandy fans someone to hangout with.

Who would you want and why?

We've taken Texas already. What do we gain from taking Baylor?

The next expansion will be going after North Carolina and Virginia. I don't think much will occur until Notre Dame decides to drop their connection with the ACC.

Clemson
FSU
NC State

After that you could go one of a handful of teams. Va Tech, Louisville, Ok St, Huston, UCF. If the SEC just wanted to do something as a novelty and unique then they could try to bring Ga Tech and Tulane back into the fold or give a few smaller schools a shot at the big leagues like Memphis, Southern Miss, Tulsa. I wouldn’t be a fan of either of those happening but like I said if the SEC just wanted to do something unique. Just my own personal preference I think Va Tech should get the last slot. Va Tech along with the first 3 teams I mentioned would all be pretty good cultural fits and would enhance the league also while keeping to the traditional southern footprint of the SEC. Plus it would make a couple of existing OOC rivalry games played every year conference rivalry games played every year.

Va Tech

A complete no-brainer.

I’ll never understand how/why this [weekly] discussion doesn’t stop at: VA Tech, Clemson, FSU, and [possibly] Oklahoma State.
