It'll be like last year IMO. Deep pitching staff is back again with similar bats from last season. The team will lose some games but it's true form will show in the post season when other teams are using their bad pitchers and Arkansas is getting their 5th or 6th best guy who can still shut you down.

Our pitching staff is going to be ridiculous this year.

Hopefully little Bax is as good as advertised and can bring that much needed power to our lineup again.

LSU's pitching staff should be absolutely stacked.

Austin Nola
Ryan Eades

A few newbies we brought in and our bullie looks strong again though the closer spot needs to get nailed down.

Rhymes & Katz come back and they rake so we're good there. Ty Ross is penciled in at catcher and he had a huge improvement at the plate from Year 1 to Year 2. I expect similar things from him. Just happens that way with young catchers it seems (Michah Gibbs did the same deal). Jacoby Jones will play 2nd more than likely, and we'll hope he finally grows into the next great LSU player we thought he was destined to be the past two years.

The newcomer who will have most of the SEC wailing songs of lamentation will be Alex Bregman. High School kid out of New Mexico who broke his finger his senior year. He sank a bit on the boards and then put up a ridiculous number for clubs who were thinking of signing him and told everyone he wanted to come to LSU.

He will more than likely be the starting everyday shortstop and hit somewhere between 2-5.

Yea, I think we finish in the top 5 of the SEC. But I don't think this team is built to win the SEC. Its built for the post season.

This is what LSU has been missing for a few years now.

actually, if you guys want to know what we are like, style, etc, look at Arky. Childress was Van Horn's pitching coach at Nebraska and builds his team around pitching.

We struggle with the bats though and we've gone thru a few hitting coaches the last few years trying to solve that. At this point, I'm not optimistic we are going to score a lot of runs but we'll always have some pitching.

Lot's of lazy fans around here.. but typical.

Tamu baseball is on another level than Mizzou, their stadium is 100 times better than ours.

But, Mizzou did win the Big12 last year. Mizzou has gone to super regionals and been a decent team over the years.

You have some respectable current MLB players that went to Mizzou. They're not a 'long way' from competing, which is what people are saying on here. Plus St. Louis is a hotbed for talent, more guys may want to go to Mizzou now that it is SEC. Not many metro areas with more current MLB players than St. Louis.

Actually most of the folks who follow baseball around here are extremely knowledgeable.

The problem here is that there are 5 teams in the SEC last season that have as nice or nicer stadiums than TAMU and finished ahead of them in the attendance rankings.

No debate here. Missouri has been solid over the years but the SEC is better top to bottom than the Big 12 so it will be tougher to get wins. However on the flip side the SEC sends a lot more teams to Regionals than the Big 12 so your chances of getting in go up as well.

Cheshire,

I was thinking of St. Louis, but Springfield games are fun in the heat of Summer when you want to watch good baseball at a discount and drink some fairly cheap beer or margaritas.

Maybe I'll see you there sometime soon.

My wife's company has season tickets so we go to a lot of them. We usually do a bunch of Friday night games because she always wants to watch the fireworks after the game.

You won the Big 12 TOURNAMENT. Baylor won the Big 12.

That is actually very true. Its impressive. That was a lazy comment by me.

I just think it's a lazy statement to say Mizzou is far from competing, when they just won their conference tournament last year.

I get that they are extremely far away in facilities. I just think they have a decent foundation going into the SEC, and have good talent in the state that might start choosing Mizzou over some other good baseball options in our state.

This concept has always made me scratch my head...

Basketball is the same way.

Say Alabama has the best record in SEC football after the regular season, then loses to FLA in the SEC championship game, FLA wins the SEC.

But in basketball or baseball, the regular season champ claims to be the conference champion. But the tournament, which is basically a playoff.. is just the tournament winner. That seems odd to me.

Mizzou is a lot like Arkansas from a facilities standpoint when we entered the SEC. Sure we had been to a couple of CWS prior to the SEC but our field and stadium were absolute crap. A few years of that SEC money and a timely donation by the Baums and we were on our way in '98. I imagine you guys will see the same thing happen sooner rather than later once your money guys get the tour of SEC ballparks over the next few years.

There is no way you will compete year in and year out unless they put the money in to it. For a lot of schools in the SEC, baseball is probably the #2 sport behind football and not basketball like it is in the rest of the country.

You've got to rotate them out. That's my excuse for our basketball team in the coming years, and our football team 02-08.

I'm pretty sure they are 0-1 versus South Carolina but they do have a winning record against all of the other SEC teams that they have played. They have never played Auburn, Georgia or Vanderbilt however.
