Alabama made a good hire in Grant. Tide has looked good so far and have to play Maryland tomorrow in Puerto Rico. LSU continues to suck. And LSU shouldn't suck. The football excuse is horrible. LSU has Pistol Pete, Shaq, final fours...there's some history.

One major problem when it comes to SEC basketball has been recruiting. A lot of the teams have recruited amazing athletes that have had very little IQ for the game, yet they left after 1 to 2 years if they made it to begin with.

This is very accurate. A lot of the SEC teams have great athletes, but mediocre basketball players. It's a failing at the high school level. So many schools in the south are so consumed with football the basketball program/coach at the high school is subpar. They don't get the same great coaching that they do in the northeast or in basketball crazed states like North Carolina, Kentucky or Indiana.

It would greatly benefit the flagship universities of southern states to put a greater emphasis on high school basketball. Build powerhouse programs. Lure actual basketball coaches to said schools and not just some assistant from the football team. Start grooming players at an early age. It will work. Recruits from the south who are athletically gifted suddenly won't be so raw when they get to the SEC because they've received actual coaching at the high school level.

Florida figured out how to build a basketball program by hiring a great coach, expanding their recruiting base and throwing actual money behind the program by building facilities and allotting as substantial recruiting budget. You aren't going to become Kentucky, but you can damned sure become Florida. Kentucky is just on a different level that only Duke & UNC can compare to and the numbers back it up. Super Elite Recruits
