My guess is that if Tom Herman restores them to their ordained glory, they'll disappear. In the meantime they'll chime in here with their "look at me" posts. Just the way it is.

Exclusive to a handful of students. Red pots were upperclassmen in charge of Bonfire.. the "jizz jar" tradition was either junior class red pots or seniors, can't recall which.
Cousin was a mid 80's red pot in the 80's, don't know if RP's even exist anymore... they were tied into heavy litigation after '99.
Search with one of the TAMU independent fan boards and I'm sure you'll find it referenced with authenticity. Weird as furk to most of us, but a certain USA hockey team by way of a BC hockey tradition embraced it and it as an alpha/elite ritual of honor to them.
At least the red pots weren't doing it together/same time as far as I'm aware.

Unfortunately I can believe that the redpots of my class were in many ways directly and indirectly responsible for the bonfire collapse due to carelessness and negligence. (1st stack being put in wrong while the remainder put in correctly was the physical cause of the collapse - the resulting hoop stress from stacks 2-6 pushing down on the bottom stack made it burst like an overfilled barrel)

sadly you are correct, realistically it could have been anyone in their shoes. Young men following a tradition so steeped that a "comfort zone" was established.
One of the country's most treasured college traditions.. I know a lot of Texas fans that would jump to defend it's honor. 100% respect.

You could also make the claim that the change in venue contributed heavily to it as well.
From 1908 to 1992 it was at Duncan Field, the field (now a parking lot) behind the Corps Dorms. Not one collapse during that 84 year period.
From 1993 - 1999, after moving to the polo fields, the stack collapsed twice - once due to shifting ground in 1994, and the 1999 tragedy.
