the nationwide brand can be a selling point

there are no nationwide brands in college football. people will tune in to watch the top teams play, but there is nothing like the steelers, packers, or cowboys in college football. no one in california is going to tune in to watch oklahoma "because, oklahoma".

this year's bama/clemson TV ratings were 14.2, 25M viewers, which was less than a week 6 game between dallas and green bay (15.8, 28M viewers). Those are national brands.

They are too little too late. The GOR has real teeth, and the SEC needs team 16 to take team 15. And fricking Oklahoma State is not an option for 16.

They have to fricking wait their turn.

I think its really hard for anyone to know whether the SEC or the Big 10 would be interested in OU right now. On the one hand, OU don't bring cable money, since they are located in a state with a low population. On the other, that cable model is dying, anyway. I don't think anyone knows yet whether or not OU brings value to the SEC.

This won't be a believable rumor until another school is linked with OU. The SEC sure isn't inviting only 1 school to join.

Why the hell would the SEC expand?

The first expansion was driven by a need to get to twelve teams for a championship game.

The second expansion (which was a mistake IMO) was driven by cable numbers and creating the SEC network. Now that revenue model is crumbling, so that is no longer a valid reason.

I'm with you.

OP needs to add another school to his rumor though, if he wants it to gain traction

The only appealing expansion targets would be North Carolina and Texas. Both would bring the kind of $ along with them that would increase the per program revenue stream. Both of those are very unlikely to move.

Why are Missouri people obsessed with OU joining the SEC?

Amen.

Neither school is really cut from the proper cloth.

There can't be any more realignment of the P5 conferences until at least the mid-2020s. OU will have to twist in the wind until then.

Same reason aggots are. Guaranteed losses and immediately being pushed down to cellar dweller status of the division they'd have to share with us.

Still stunning to read of OU sniffing that the BU problems gave B12 a "dirty, SWC feel".
Certainly, OU wouldn't want to be part of any such thing....

Maybe the SEC lets OU in if Barry Switzer will be the new Conf. commissioner.

No kidding, brother. People scoff at OU academics joining the Big 10, but their athletic department invented the brain transplant to get their athletes to pass the SAT. That has to be worth something.
