No he isn't. He lost 4/5 of his "Florida 5" guys that he recruited after bloviating about "character". He poked fun at A&M over him not running a "gadget program". frick you, Charlie. The only honest thing I've seen from him is "I don't know if I want to go walking into College Station right now" in response to a question about renewing the rivalry.

But I do hope the 'horns keep him for 3 or 4 more years. That would be glorious.

I'm big on the 2A but let's be real here like 99% of the time you hear about a Football player having a gun it's a bad thing.

I'm still in shock that anyone thought the guy was ready to coach a big time program.

They hired a black coach after their failed attempt at saban. They figured he would be decent t on the recruiting trail, which he was.

Now he's just bad at everything. I hope he stays so LSU can continue to raid TX

Compared to the other hotshots in the up and coming generation of coaches, dude has just fizzled out. He sucks. Bald Lane Kiffen.

Eh... He's done better than Muschamp or Kiffin and arguably is even with Sumlin of that wave of coaches.

With a school with that much money, history and in arguably the most talent rich state, there is absolutely no excuse for their final product which they put on the field to not be at least competitive with the best in the country.

Firing of the AD pretty much seals his fate. But his pocketbook will be fat

He'll get next season to save his job, you fire a guy after 2 seasons and it's going to be really hard to find a replacement.

Not only that, they can't afford to keep two former coaches on the payroll while they're paying a third.

i think he and Ty Willangham are very similar(other than the obvious), but they were great coaches at upper mid level programs but failed at Top 10 jobs

Strongs message and hard arse works at a Louisville but at UT shite isnt going to fly

say what you will about Mack, but dude was the perfect CEO type for the monster that is UT in dealing with the money guys and boosters

i would cut bait with strong and start fresh with a new AD and coach

TAMU hires black coach, joins SEC, gets media love
Utx hires black coach, stays in B12, can't sell LHN

I guess keeping up with the Jones's is not what it appears to be.

You obviously haven't kept up with all the things that got Steve Patterson fired. Texas filed a C&D letter to shaggybevo.com, stating "BEVO" was the property of UT. It's now shaggytexas.com.

Glad I am not alone in my opinion of "Third and Long, Charlie Strong."

I mean its not a bad thing to have good recruiting classes but texas is still top 10 every year and top 10 classes can easily win championships with a decent coach.

Texas 2016 class is currently ranked #56, 7 spots behind SMU and 1 spot ahead of Louisiana Tech.

I forgot to mention my favorite:

quote:

Two days after the Longhorns beat Oklahoma State 28-7 to improve to 6-5 and clinch bowl eligibility, Strong said Monday the turning point is coming for his program and that another five-loss season "will never happen in this program again."

They promptly lost the next game to TCU and the bowl game to Arkansas to finish 6-7. A five loss season isn't happening this year, either. I think at best they're 4-8. But 3-9 is more likely.

And yes, I'm lovin' every minute of it.

He seems like a good coach, but with the talent pool Texas has to utilize, he should be doing better. And we haven't seen in recent years coaches recover who do not improve in year two.
