I feel for you Ole Miss fans

I really do. All of you Ole Miss fans who aren't trying to justify what happened at the program, who aren't denying it, who aren't defending it, and who aren't saying "so what, everybody cheats" deserve so much better than this. I can't imagine what it must feel like (myself being too young to remember the UF probation of the 80s). I would be devastated, but at the same time I'd like to think that I would be in favor of the Gators being punished for cheating.
I'm honestly most interested in finding out how much Freeze knew and how active a role in the cheating operation he was taking. Did he give the orders? Did he carry them out? Was he purposely turning a blind eye to what was going on, or was he (most unbelievably) completely unaware of what was going on? None of those options vindicate him. As head coach it is his responsibility along with the athletic director's to make sure the Rebels run a clean football program. Ignorance is no defense; not when we're talking about the head coach.
This is a large black mark for Ole Miss and college football as a whole. We, as fans, deserve better - we deserve a product that isn't the result of cheating and honestly at this point I don't know if it's even possible anymore. Anyone with a working brain can figure out that cheating in one form or another occurs almost everywhere. Luckily however I don't believe that infractions of this scale and magnitude are the norm. I would be devastated to find out that every major school did the same things that Ole Miss now appears to be accused of having done.
So to all you honest and passionate Ole Miss fans, you have my condolences, for what little they are worth.

Classy post. I've said from the beginning, if we are guilty, we deserve to pay. As a parent, I would never encourage my son to cheat nor condone his cheating. The case is no different with our football program.

quote:Great post, man. At the end of the day we all bleed red and we're all very passionate about our schools and teams. None of us is responsible for their bad behavior, but we get punished right alongside them.

We certainly deserved to get punished but it was bs how the SEC said we were champs even after getting the bowl ban, had a 6-1 vote by league executives to let us keep said SEC title in January, and then Vince Dooley greased some palms, ignored the executive vote, and rallied the other ADs to strip out title.

Yeah I've done a lot of reading about what happened to us back then in the eighties. I don't think there's a question we deserved to get punished but there was definitely a lot of dirty play going on amongst those schools who were traditional Powers at the time. They really really didn't like seeing Florida have any kind of national success. Thank God we finally did it the right way starting with Spurrier.

Yeah. I kind of feel bad for their fans. There were some jerks on these message boards, but every team has that kind.

What pisses me off is when the NCAA knows something is up and turns a blind eye.
Or, when they take a lie and make it truth, or pressure some dumbass kid to lie or shade truth by intimidation.
NCAA is not consistent.
Been a while since they hammered anybody so Ole Miss will get a double shot. Keep in mind I hate Ole Miss and no doubt they're deserving of what's to come but also keep in mind, we all know of some who've gotten less for doing worse or as bad.

Appreciate this post. Hard to find people on here who aren't cursing our name left and right. We deserve to be punished without a doubt, no way around it. Hate it as a lifelong fan, but we will get through it. Best of luck to you guys this year.

I only hate it for their fans. It's the fans who ultimately pay the price. I just have no sympathy for those boosters and people within the University who knew better. One of their boosters caught up in this scandal was on campus within weeks after OM knew he was involved. That sort of stuff shows the Ncaa a slap in the face.
Now they face LOIC from numerous other things.
The good Ole Miss fans are being punished, not the offenders. That is the only reason I feel for the fans. They had no say so in this and were misled. Maybe they will get angry and demand heads to roll?
