Ron Cooper to coach their DBs and he's pretty good yet their DBs suck.

They might suck now, but give him a few games. He is 10 times better than anyone else in the SEC not named Saban as a total DB coach and is better than Saban IMO.
He had Rosen confused that game. It is controlling the clock and pressure that lost the game.
Best I've ever seen at LSU in my 60 years of watching college football.

They were viscous in the first quarter. Maybe the old saying is now 3rd quarter and Chavis.

Watching our players at the end, I don't understand. It's like they have no conditioning? At least this year ended early
didn't y'all just hire a new strength and conditioning coach? One that used to work for saban?

I think it's the culture of the program. Not necessarily fact that Texas High schools dont play defense. LSU and Bama often get Texas defensive recruits every year... both schools just pride themselves on fielding a good defense.

The kid who let the game winning interception go thru his hands was 2015 Mr. Football Louisiana. Capers-Smith should never even see the field.

As a QB. He also ran 40s in the 5.1 range and A&M signed him to play corner.

At the start of the 4th, the game was 44-17. In what fricking universe does your running back who has gone over 200 yards already get 2 fricking carries when you're up 27?!

Yeah so many want to keep the chavis' fault narrative that they don't care about what the O didnt do to keep the game.

Cant keep the D out on the field. Great conditioning or not. Run game gives you control, and as long as there is a dumb fumble, you give the other team less chance of scoring. Why you dont put the ball in the air to avoid interceptions.

That might still be true, but Chavis has peaked at a top 70 defense at A&M so we will never know.

It's because Chavis runs a soft bend but don't break defense which stays on the field way to long. Add that to Sumlin's run and gun offense no matter the score and his inability to stay with the run with a lead and you get last night and many other examples in their tenure.

Ok. Reasonable comparison. Just a bad mix of coaching era's. But doesnt make him as bad as all yall lsu fans make him out to be.

Yalls O, mainly at qb, has sucked for yrs under miles. Part of why chavis left. He's D needs an O that can do it's part too.

Giving up 4 TDs in a quarter is awful regardless of what the offense is doing. On a night the offense put up 44, you don't get to pass the blame to that side of the ball. Chavis is a fricking bum, and I couldn't be more thrilled to not have him here.

He needs a an O that can milk the clock and rest the defense. That was never a problem here at LSU. Scoring is another issue.

As someone else said, Chavis just doesn't excel at protecting leads. He's on his third school in this conference, and the same issue has risen at each stop.

The thing is you can't just blame Chavis. Our defense has been shite for decades. Amazingly enough, the guy before Chavis was way worse.

Our only hope of ever having a good defense completely rests on who we hire as head coach. I don't think any single person alive can fix our defense via actual coaching, but if we get a guy like Chip Kelly every blue star in the state (aka including the ones currently going to Bama or LSU) will stay home and we will win by sheer natural talent.

Short of that lottery ticket scenario I never expect to see another goodA&M defense in my lifetime.
