I don’t believe Auburn is getting enough attention for giving Gus $7 MILLION!!!

This is absolutely nuts to me. We’re not that far from when elite coaches were making $3-$5 mill. and this guys has been on the verge of being fired two years in a row.

hell, just think what kind of coach LSU could have hired if offered half of what CGM is making. Instead, LSU opted for a coach that was on the discount rack/table.

I’m completely in agreeance with A&M spending whatever it takes to get a championship coach, I’m jelly. But as far as Auburn’s case, willing to pay =/= worth

Unfortunately what "was" the market value doesn't really matter. The current market is dictating that coaches can command more. Couple that with the fact that there simply aren't any coaches that might be available that are objectively better than Gus's performance at Auburn thus far, and it's a pretty easy decision. Is it overpaying? Sure... But keep in mind that UF just paid Mullen 6M...

Y’all are missing my point. I’m all about paying someone 7mill if they’re worth it. But not someone you were wanting to fire 6 games ago.

Why are LSU fans so obsessed with what coaches make?

You see more comments from them than any fanbase wondering if coaches are "worth" the money, like there is some absolute hard and fast rules for how much coaches should get paid.

It seems completely divorced from the reality of the situation, which is the pay is determined by the timing and the situation. Gus just won the west when Arky is taking at run at him, so he is worth $7 million to Auburn.

How much is a SEC West title worth? We would buy one for $100 million at A&M if we could.

That's not what's weird. It's the fact that not two months ago they wanted this man fired.

Other schools are spending $7 million while LSU wanted to not allow the visitor bands in the stadium because they needed the revenue from the extra tickets they could sell. What does that tell you about the status of LSU? I am beginning to think the real reason they got rid of Les was because they realized they did not have the money to keep him.

The new normal. Gus will get a bump in this contract at some point. Universities trying to save money with a coach will lose millions in the process. "The most expensive labor in the world is cheap labor"
