honestly i think 4 is fine, but if they had to expand it, 6 makes the most sense. 8 is too many.

IMO 8 makes the most sense. Have the power 5 conference champion get in, unless it's a weird year where the conference champion has more then 2 losses. Like when Wisconsin was the B1G champion when OSU was on probation. and have the other 3 spots at large. Give ND and a non power 5 team a shot at the spot.

Why are people so hung up on opinion polls?

How about this:

16 pods that are paired up by region.

Teams play round robin in each pod, with some cross over games with their paired pod, and teams from other regions.

The winner of each pod takes on the winner of the pod they're paired with.

Take those 8 winners, seed them according to SOS, and have a playoff.

Just for fun, we can refer to the "pods" as divisions, and the "regions" as conferences.

Almost everybody said it was a travesty going with the 4+1 last year.

They were wrong.

This is much, much better than anything that went before.

3 more years of data then make a tweak or two that's how it should work.
