We all can have a bit of myopia when it comes to our own programs. But, that is what makes us fans. It is normal for UGA fans to think UGA is better and normal for Auburn fans to think Auburn is better. And we can make our own cases for our side and think it reasonable.

Thing is...most of us would get along and like each other off the Rant.

And FWIW I don't think Auburn is better. UGA has been a lot more consistent for sure, but Auburn does have an edge in a couple of categories. I also can't imagine there are many other longstanding rivalries who have that close of a series record.
I just hope your new coach doesn't have our number like your last one did!

not sure vandy is ~20 spots higher than MSU or UK

Vandy did have some kick arse teams in the early years of the Old Southern Conference (and their pre-Conference years), which would probably put them higher overall than MSU or UK. From 1903 to 1930, Vanderbilt was 194-48-15. That is a winning percentage of 0.75 with 3 undefeated seasons. I dont know of MSU or UK either having a 3 decade stretch where they won 3/4 of their games.

Only time will tell. Nobody knows what Smart will do until we get on the field. And even then it might take him a year or so. Georgia/Auburn is a great rivalry. I always circle the Florida and Auburn games on my calendar every year. Those are the games that get me excited the most.

Since I've been alive, the Auburn-Georgia series is 18-17-1 in favor of Georgia.

Although Georgia's winning percentage would put them at #8 and Auburn at #13, I'd still put Auburn over Georgia.

Championships and undefeated seasons matter. Georgia is marginally better on an annual basis and Auburn had a few terrible years in there ('98, 2012) to skew the winning percentage.

Auburn would have 1 national championship (2010)
Auburn would have 3 undefeated seasons (93, 04, 10)
Auburn would have 6 SEC Championships
Auburn would have 2 Heisman winners

Georgia would have 1 national championship (1980)
Georgia would have 1 undefeated season (1980)
Georgia would have 5 SEC Championships
Georgia would have 1 Heisman winner

Georgia reminds me a lot of Michigan. They are typically good year in and year out, but they don't have a lot (championship wise) to show for it. That said, they have a brand-name that speaks for itself and they should always be in the hunt.

Auburn, on the other hand, will always have to deal with Alabama. Arguably the best program of all time. They'll be afforded a little more leeway to have a bad season here and there. They fact that they've accomplished so much with fighting that in there home state is pretty impressive.

While LSU has 17 less wins than UGA, we have higher win %, own the head-to-head 16-13, and have more titles than UGA. Also have more weeks in AP Poll and more weeks as AP #1.

I don’t see an objective reason to put them ahead of LSU just because their program has played a relative handful of more games historically.

Florida is close as well though.
LSU has more wins, higher win %, more national (not conf.) titles, and more weeks in AP poll. UF has more conference titles, weeks at #1, and holds head to head 31-28.

Then you brought up Auburn?

Auburn:
LSU has more wins, higher win %, more titles, more bowls, more weeks in AP, more weeks as AP #1, and owns the head-to-head 28-21.

By the way what exactly has Uga accomplished lately in the title discussion?

Dude, Tulane still has more SEC titles than MSU.

It's all close.

That said, I think UGA should be placed higher on the all time list.

About the only thing not close is number of SEC titles. And that's why I think there is a small gap between LSU/UGA and Florida/Auburn. In all-time rankings.

All time the separation in metrics between Florida, Auburn, LSU and Georgia is pretty small.

I think LSU has a consensus top 15 lock, although again, the margins aren't big. UF and UGA and Auburn are all in the 12-20 range IMO, so putting UF and UGA a the back end of the top 15 and Auburn in 15-20 doesn't really bother me.

I think the breakdown sucks somewhat, as Auburn is a lot closer to UGA and Florida than they are to Arkansas and A&M. I understand why you did it like that, but from a "tier" perspective it's unfavorable

Interesting, I never realized that looking at things historically meant only using the last 5 years.

Thank you for helping me to stop being a mouth breather.

And not to make excuses, but I do take some pride in Auburn probably having the hardest path to stay in that group. We share a state with Alabama, and that is often recognized.

But UGA should have a stranglehold on GA, an elite talent state. UF is a big fish in THE elite talent state. LSU has Louisiana on lock. Auburn is traditionally smaller as well.

So where should Alabama and Ole Miss be, respectively?

Is it really LOL to list the team with the most AP national championships as a Top 3 CFB program historically?

Ole Miss is 33rd in total wins
Ole Miss is 52nd in total win %
Ole Miss is 18th in total bowls played
Ole Miss has 0 AP national titles

Where exactly should they be if not between 30-40?

Agree - Auburn is one of the best "non-flagship" state schools in CFB. I don't think there is really any doubt. And, they happen to share the state with a Top 5 all-time program. It's pretty impressive, honestly.

Fans of Mississippi schools don't like to dig deep into their history. So they use arbitrary statistics, like bragging about past 5 years or 2 years, to pretend they're not perpetual bottom feeders.

Awwe are you sad no one is giving little ol Arkansas any attention? When the big6 bicker amongst each other there is a certain amount of underlying respect. We may hate each other at times but we know that our schools are more or less the same. Some of my best friends have gone to Auburn and while it is fun to bust their balls at the end of the day I still respect them and their program. No one cares at all what side you take.
