I'll be happy that it helps Bama's already strong SOS look even better.

And if you lose, well then I get to be happy that Tennessee lost.

As Craig said, win/win.

If there is one school we can talk down to in regards to this, its UT.

It's a HUGE game IMO for the vols. lose and its downhill for them win and it could propel them toward a huge season.

Nope. We're playing with house money this game. It's no-lose -- win and it's big momentum; lose and it's disappointing but no big deal.

I think it's a big deal. It's an OU program that finished last season unranked and it's in Knoxville.

I agree and it's the kind of game that Butch Jones has to win if he's going to get Tennessee back to an elite level.

Compare the rosters and tell me where Oklahoma has a decisive advantage. Dobbs should certainly be better than Mayfield. Perine is a monster and Mixon should be good as well but Hurd/Kamara make that a push. I would take our wideouts all day over OU's. Tennessee's OL is not great but Oklahoma lost 3 starters IIRC and they will be starting at freshman at LT. Our DL should dominate that matchup.

Plus it's going to be a prime time game with a very rowdy crowd in Neyland. It's a great opportunity for Tennessee to put a stamp on all the offseason hype but there's a ton to lose as well.

To be honest, I'm somewhat conflicted on this one. For years in the scheduling threads I've asserted that Tennessee will never ever return to a consistently elite status. No one likes to be proven wrong but that has to be weighed against the prospect of Alabama actually facing a full and competitive SEC schedule which would obviously be big for LSU.

But those points pale in comparison to the deep and decades long loathing that I have for the state of Oklahoma and everything within its borders.

So . . . Geaux Vols?

You're ascribing ulterior motives that I simply don't have. The only thing a loss to OU can really be for us is a disappointment that makes it harder to gain momentum. But it has no bearing on the SEC race and no bearing on whether or not we have a good season. That it comes so early in the season means it's a huge gain if we win but will be a penalty free game if we lose. None of us expect a perfect season and dropping OU leaves room to still finish 8-4 with a chance for 9 wins (8-4 regular is where most of us are projecting. Hence saying we're playing with house money.

But please, since you know so much better than me me how I'm wrong here? I'm willing to listen.

One loss doesn't make or break the season. OU might've tanked later on but they were on their game when we played and if we are comparing last season OU finished better and other than their bowl game had pretty close games. UT, OTOH, was up and down and just like in 2014 we're still 95+% underclassmen -- FINALLY talented ones minus OL but still true and RS froshies as well as sophomores.

Don't get me wrong, it would SUCK BALLS to lose but it's not make or break. Just a huge amount of momentum if we went but perfectly recoverable if we lose.

I don't care either way. Usually I root for the SEC team.

But Tennessee fans have been trying way too hard to "prove" themselves this off-season that I'm rooting for Oklahoma. SEC be damned.
