There were definitely message boards around back then. I was posting on Tider Insider, using my dialup modem and AOL as my ISP when DuBose was coaching and up until thru Shula (had cable internet by then.

I was very experienced with plane tracking and coaching searches, that's for damn sure.

That was also around the time I was in college and in my 20's, so that's the type of shite I suffered thru when I went to a lot of games each year.

Just makes the success we are having now, that much sweeter.

It is almost unimaginable that Bama lost to auburn 6 straight times given where the programs are now. That had to pretty miserable. I bet you guys where doing a lot of the "ifs" and "buts" LSU fans are doing these days. You think you guys would be a little more understanding.

I think every coach we had after the Bear had at least 10 wins in his 3rd year.

Wallace Wade started the tradition 1923-1930 (3 NC's) then 28 years to Bryant(6 NC's) with some success mixed in the middle (1NC a few SEC's) then 24 years and Nick Saban. We'll have another before I go to fan heaven with some success in between.

Dial up. I remember being on jobs and we would unplug the clients fax machine to get a line to check the web.

We would have won 10 games with him like we did with every other coach during that time. Probably won the SEC too. He might have actually been successful instead of going to UM where he was never accepted.

That being said, I'm glad his white trash wife thought they were too good for Tuscaloosa and didn't want to come. We turned out aight.

Bama fans aren't the problem, its the LSU fans. Most of yall aren't happy unless you're miserable.

Under Shula it was pretty bad. Most of the fan base was in denial. Bama fielded some good defenses and had some good individual players but the leadership just wasnt there. Bama fans were in love with players like Simeon Castille, Wesley Britt, and Rudy Griffin. I think it was similar to the way some Mississippi State fans are today but no one had invented grinding, and then there was/is the whole Bear/history/selfrighteousness thing.

I joined Bama message boards around 99. Like another poster said, there were plenty of people who thought we were just a little tweak here or there away from putting it all together. I had friends on the team, and they all said the same thing. We all thought we were very close. In comparison to how things are run now, we were light years away.

But LSU is not a bad program they just happen to be great when Alabma also happens to be great. Honestly the only reason to pull against LSU in the nc game is so I don't have to listen to my friends give me crap which would be fine if I ever gave it to them but I am not a crap talking kind of guy.

Consoled myself knowing they had 2 SEC titles, and double the ten win seasons of our in-state rivals in Bama's 2nd worst decade ever, while they were in their golden yrs.

I think one thing that made it worse was bama was in almost every game. Shula would just go into deer in headlights mode at the end of every third quarter. It got to where everyone felt if the game was close in the 4th quarter, bama had no chance of winning no matter who they were playing.

That epitomizes Dooley and UT fans this year.

Crimson Fever - you guys are just a fun bunch to get wound up. It is pretty easy to do.

Fortunately none of us have to be worried about being in the heads of each other since none of us play on either team and never did and we have absolutely no influence on the outcome of any of the games / issues we so aggressively discuss.

I hope we all have more important things to worry about then some fun banter on a college football message board. If not, we have bigger issues.

I remember when Fran almost beat OU at OU and we thought we were a season or two away from being back where we belong. Like you said though, we were still light years away from where we are now. It's all relative I guess.
