Everything I have seen and heard is that the big $$$ boosters want him. It at least looks like he's the target right now. How well do y'all think he would do there?

Wish they'd offer him the position, Sunday Morning, with a 24 hr decision ultimatum.

It will be interesting to see him and Dabo going at it.

Its South Carolina. Limited potential. Not much more than the OBC if any....Kirby can do better. Only upside is their fans and alums would be more patient.

Best 4 out of 7 then the winner comes back home when Saban retires.

Don't think he'll be that good.

Bama is his in a couple of years. Georgia is the only place I think he would leave for.
If he does go to South Carolina though his firing in 3 years would bring him back for future HBC Dabo as the defensive coordinator.

I think Kirby's in a tough situation. I don't know the man, but you've got to assume he wants the Bama job after Saban, but I doubt that TPTB will be happy hiring a career assistant coach with no head coaching experience to follow one of the best coaches of the era. But, if he goes to USCe and flops, whether it's because he isn't good enough or because he's new to being a head coach or because it's tough to win at USCe, he could blow his chance at the Bama gig. If I were him, I'd take the money, go to USCe, work my arse off, and give it a shot. I could always go be a DC somewhere (see Muschamp) afterword. But it might be tempting to go somewhere with low expectations, develop the program, and then become the "hot" coaching name to up the appeal for Bama.
All this is assuming that being HC for Bama is his "dream" and that USCe is even interested in him.

DAMN I hope Bama learned a lesson hiring assistants within the program. If they want Kirby to replace Coach Saban, fine. But let the man get his feet wet as a HC somewhere else. Let him experience first hand how tough it is to juggle a full staff, a roster, and the outside responsibilities that have nothing to do with the football field.
It takes exceptional organizational skills to run a program as massive and demanding as Alabama. The pressure and expectations aren't higher anywhere else in the country. No AD at Bama should throw Kirkby in a pressure cooker like that when he has ZERO head coaching experience.

Here's how it would end up:

Depends on how much of his recruiting roots carry over. If he can bring his GA ties into play, I think he'd be recruiting better than Spurrier the last few years. He'd have to fight, but he could get some players they wouldn't have considered USCe prior.
Then it's up to coaching, he needs a good, proven OC who can integrate the preexisting talent so not to frick over the offense.

6 National Championships in his lifetime, if he bribgs the right staff.

It's a lot easier to have success when you have a roster filled with 4- and 5-star recruits.
Not gonna have that at SC.
If I was them, I'd go after Paul Johnson. His system would work at SC.

The obvious answer is that it depends on how well he (and who he hires) can recruit and who he has as his offensive coordinator.
I see a lot of Muschamp in this potential hire, and not because of Smart's temperament. I think that Smart would be thrown into too big of a situation too quick. IMO, if he has aspirations of being a head coach, he needs to make his bones at a mid-major program before jumping directly into the big time.
