I'm talking on offense. Florida's offense didn't do them any favors this year whatsoever. With a semi-competent offense you likely don't lose any regular season games. If what we saw on the field, on offense, was a product of Jim McElwain, I don't see how that would be encouraging to anyone. And McElwain was very close to losing several other games. Squeaked by Vandy, was the beneficiary oif LSU completely choking, played an ugly game against South Carolina. And all of his losses this year were beat downs. I don't think it is as simple as "well he won the East." The East was awful, hence the OP saying he backed into it.
ETA: and please don't think bringing up the LSU game proves anything. LSU wasn't good either this year and just fired their HC and OC

All the offensive players are Mac's from QB on down. The offense has been awful since he got here.He had 4 dead weight recruiters in Collins, Rumph, Nord and Summers. His defensive recruiting has been garbage and he's "won" the east because it's worse than the AAC West right above the MWC.

I've been really underwhelmed with McElwein. He's just a bad fit at Florida and he's not cut out for SEC recruiting. Also hiring Nuss was a huge red flag. He has basically won the East by default so I don't give him too much credit for that. Florida is a top 5 job and when you're making the money he is making you shouldn't be limping into the bowl the way he is for the second straight year.
IMO, his offensive style is antiquated and just isn't conducive for success at a high level without being loaded across the board like he was at Alabama. He has shown no ability to improve the offense in two years. That's a bad sign.
I just don't see him being the long term answer.

It is a total embarrassment that LSU lost to that crappy team at home.
It is the kind of loss that would have gotten Les fired. We then hired our interim DLine coach to a permanent job.
Florida was horrible. But, if you get inside the 10 yard line 5 times and only score 10 points, including crapping the bed from the one with time running out, you deserve to lose, I guess.
But, yeah, you're right about McElwain. That Florida team is terrible.

Ok so fire Mac and hire who?
Ill hang up and wait for REAL names. So leave your Saban,Urban and Harbaughs at the door.
No top HC is leaving where they currently are. Theres reasons a top program like LSU settled on their DL coach
Slim pickins that are proven

I suspect that 2017 will be quite disappointing for UF. Their fans seem to be delusional about how good they are going to be. Their defense is taking a major hit this off season.
In State recruiting has some serious competition going on. I can't see him having much success.
Those teeth.
My guess is he gets run out after the 2018 season.

Won 2 East titles in as many seasons.
The East is just as down right now as it was when everyone, including UF fans, were giving the Missouri fans shite for bragging about winning it.

He's not exactly loading up on 5 star OL, WRs or RBs either.
You don't need to load up on 5 stars when you can find 4 star players like Callaway and Perine on offense and 3 stars like Jarrad Davis and Zuniga on defense.

Coordinators, sure. Orgeron isn't even in the top 10 in the SEC.
