Whether you're a Florida fan or an MSU fan, lmao at your baseball program.

Ray Tanner is the 3rd best coach ever in the SEC. He made USC into a dominant team.

54-16 in 2002 and lost 12-6 in the final game to Texas. Baseball, man.

Went 57-18 overall that season. And those '02-'04 years came after the 2000 one when we went 56-10 and was the #1 national seed but fell in the Supers, so we never made it to Omaha that year.

I also saw after LSU defeated Oregon St. today where they had a short list of teams that had 4 or fewer losses on the regular season, and still failed to win the CWS. The 1975 Gamecock team was on that list: we went 51-6-1 that season and made our first ever trip to Omaha, and reached the Championship game that year too, also losing to Texas.....

They've been to the CWS more than twice. They've gotten to the championship game twice.

I think a lot of people forget that we made it to the finals in 2012 after winning it all in 2010 and 2011

Similar to our 1998 team. After winning back to back in '96 and '97, we started 2-0 in the '98 CWS. Then USC came out of the losers bracket and beat us twice to advance to the championship game against a depleted Arizona State. Despite coming that close to a 3-peat, that 1998 team faded into the irrelevance of ancient history.

Because of his move to AD you might also be surprised that he left the program still 2nd on our all time coach's wins-list. (Perhaps reaffirming that our baseball history is deeper than most realize)

imo, LSU and South Carolina are the top 2 baseball programs in the conference.

florida will disagree but their lack of championships and their inconsistency over the years (they have long spans with mediocre teams), not to mention mediocre fan support just doesn't qualify them for the tops.

No UF fan would disagree (no, ForeverGator doesn't count). 2 and 6 > 0 and 2 (hopefully 3 before the end of the night).

this cannot ever be overstated to our fellow SEC baseball schools.

I don't want to take away from the respectful mojo we're witnessing from El Tigre and others in this thread - but we Gamecocks were watching native Son Richardson and Raines take Carolina to the title game in Omaha while Skip was still an assistant in Miami.

South Carolina has been 6 times, which was tied with most in the conference with LSU. Until today, of course. Congrats to them

I know LSU has never lost the series when they've made it, which is ridiculously impressive.

It's really incredible how only a couple of games can impact a legacy or perception. As mentioned by an earlier post, 3 of our 4 finals losses was under the 1 game finals format. 2-3 more wins in the more than 2,500 our program has we'd be considered as one of the top 4-6 programs of all time rather than the top 8-11ish.

We're lucky to have the longest NCAA tournament and CWS win streaks in our pocket though. That 2010-2012 run was really something.

I think the Hogs made it once many moons ago.
checked we lost to CSF in '79. A side note: Texas has been to the finals 35 times and won 6.

According to your link, they have only been to the finals 12 times and won 6. They have been to the CWS 35 times.

Read it again. Alabama has been five times to Omaha. They've played for the national championship twice.

Yep.

In football, if not for:

2002: Arkansas goes 81 yards in 31 seconds, including a 50-yard bomb and a 26-yard TD pass by a QB who was 2-for-13 before that drive to pull out a 21-20 win, the Miracle on Markham

2004: Auburn gets a 4th-and-long conversion and then gets two tries at the extra point in the final drive to win 10-9

2006: Auburn takes advantage of several very controversial calls by the officials in a 7-3 win

LSU wins the SEC West seven years in a row, from 2001 through 2007.

No. It was Stanford. I remember watching it. We beat bama in 97

I was driving with my parents through Alabama during the summer of '99. I took a little tiger tail that they had at the Exxon station and tied it to the car antenna. I stopped in Alabama to go to the bathroom. Coming out I saw this guy yelling in my mom's face. He saw the Exxon tiger tail and yelled at my mom, "I fricking hate LSU. They stole my championship ring." When I walked over there, that dude was crying...a full two years later.

Well, it wasn't a series the first five times, but just a single game. There were a couple of years (1996 and 2000) when it might have been different if it had been a series.
Nope. Wouldn't have made a difference. Tigers still would have won.
