They straight moved our DL. Most notably, our Nose Guard Brandon Ivory. He was getting blocked way past the LOS and it wasn't by a double team. Piss poor performance for a Nose.

It was very similar to 2010 UGA @ USC w/ Lattimore. Read option over and over and over and Grantham's 3-4 never had a chance.

All this talk about domination is retarded. Would anyone argue Alabama's run game was dominant? Probably not. We still averaged a full .5 yards per rush more than AU and that was with a long carry of only 31 yards. On the other hand, Auburn had long carries of 40 and 45 yards [over a quarter of their total rush yards on 2 plays). Auburn had more success offensively than anyone expected. The bottom line though is it was hardly a dominant offensive performance. The real story of the game was Alabama's complete inability to close the game out on offense despite repeated opportunities to do so against a very average defense.

Bama's defense played sufficient enough to win

Bama's offense not taking advantage and not closing drives lost this game. I figure it would've taken about 30-35 points to win this game. Bama finishes those drives and gets to that 31-21 score in the 4th. The crazy ending never happens, but they just couldn't get past 28 points. I have never blamed the defense for this lost and they've been terrible on 3rd down defense all year long in the good games. Plus, when considering how dificult the zone read is to stop with solid blocking. Bama's defense did OK. Shoot, Georgia Southern offense which is similar. Scored 21 points on one of the baddest defenses(2011) in Bama history

Did Auburn dominate the game? No. Did Auburn absolutely bash and control both lines of scrimmage? Yes. Auburns offensive line blocked so well that the team ran at will. On the defensive side Carl Lawson beat up on Cyrus Kyaflksdjfoaijadinf-dijo and Dee Ford helped collapse the pocket. The DTs played well on rush defense. War Eagle.

Fade. Like the wishbone it will end badly and Gus will be running it at Georgia Tech or Army.

Yep, I think Auburn has got one of the best DL in the SEC.
Only a healthy Florida DL would be better.

Yep, Gus's offense is legit
You've gotta have certain things to stop it.

Yep, with the read. Gotta have a NT that can't be moved. Someone like Mt. Cody is needed, and Bama doesn't have that right now. The 1st thing the needs stopping with the read is up the middle runs. Let that happen, and the LB's have to wait to react. Plus that allows blocking angles with the OL shedding off the DL to the LB's, and you've lost before the play even starts. Bama would've been best to just guess and play agressive defense while letting skill take over. Sure you give up a big play but it's better with many plays. Saban want controled madness. Sometimes it takes going all out, especially in rivalry games.

Yeldon got 40 yards of rushing on those HB draws when Auburn was playing prevent so those total yards and the YPC are skewed.

no it was a 109 yard return on a short field goal, wasn't the zone read that won the game

That one play may have decided the game, but to say everything before it had nothing to do with the outcome is pretty lame.

<--remembers when a Saban coached LSU team allowed a Dennis Fifthchoicione coached Bama team to run the draw against the vaunted Saban defense, over and over again, for about a million yards. Of course LSU lost that game 31-0.

For nostalgia's sake:

quote:

In a game featuring two of the nation's top defenses, Alabama's ground game proved to be the difference. The Crimson Tide ran for 300 yards and held the ball for 34 minutes, 37 seconds. LSU rushed for only 65 yards. "We could not stop the run,'' LSU coach Nick Saban said.

And up to that point in the season:

quote:

The Tigers had the No. 1 overall defense in the nation, allowing 246.4 yards a game. Alabama was No. 3, giving up 249.1.

Being at that game it was very frustrating to watch Santonio Beard and company run wild.

Saban defense not being able to stop a high school level play is not unprecedented, Alabama fans.

Best thing about our offensive line, no seniors.

300 rushing yards against what is supposed to be the best defense in the country is domination. Alabama knew it was coming, the fans knew what was coming, the announcers knew what was coming...yet Alabama and nobody else this year was able to stop it.

LSU didn't completely stop it but slowed it down enough to force Marshall to pass leading to 2 INT's. The key to beating any team like Auburn, Oregon, etc. is to play tight man to man coverage on receivers and load the box to stop the read/option. Run the ball with power against Auburn's suspect defense to wear them down and control the clock. LSU did this against Auburn and Stanford did the same vs Oregon. Missouri has the defense to slow down Auburn but their offense will likely be more of a balance between running and passing since they have some serious stud receivers.

Moral victory?

We did not dominate the game, but we definitely dominated your defensive front.

We weren't effective running the read option when we played LSU. Marshall was still learning it. The offense is night and day different from the LSU game to now.
