Sumlin's family wanted to move back to college station. They'll be there for a long time. He's a college guy, he's never even expressed any interest in the NFL.

7 million a year from Jerry Jones would change that

Steve Spurrier - 2 Years - Retirement

Including this year or after this year? I could see three years, after this year, to get to 2017 and the end of his contract then riding off into sunset on a golf cart. Of course, if we keep winning/improving, I can also see eight more years after this year and him having a coronary after throwing his headset for the last time... he's stubborn/competitive enough to do it, too.

I guess Bielema could coach for 12 years...that would be on par with the past HCs at Arky.

John L. - 1
Petrino - 4
Nutt - 9
Ford - 5
Kines - 1
Crowe - 3
Hatfield - 5
Holtz - 7

Yep...you have to go all the way back to Frank Broyles to find a coach that lasted at Arkansas 10 years. Just for a reference point...Jerry Ford was still President the last time that was done at Arkansas.

yep.

Pinkel should be sending out resumes right now.

Auburn should be assembling their coaching search committee. Gus is a notorious job hopper/seeker.

Where did u see this? I spend WAY too much time on TexAgs and here and have never seen this.

I have seen tons of opposing fans say he will leave A&M as soon as he gets a chance, and have seen NFL analysts saying his coaching style would translate well to the NFL.

But I have seen absolutely nothing about Sumlin expressing that interests or his staff/former staff saying that.

Of course there's no link, because it is completely based on blind hope, this pretty much sums up Arkansas fans' thoughts on Sumlin at A&M..

Yeah. I remember when Sumlin was hired, a lot of bitter old rivals (mainly Texas & Baylor) where predicting that Sumlin was using A&M as a stepping stone to land the USCw job.

Now that the USC job isn't as attractive, those same people are saying that he'll be off to the NFL as soon as Manziel leaves.

I'd also guess that if he was dead set on the NFL, he wouldn't bother building a $3 million house in College Station.

Building a huge house is a PITA, regardless of how much money you have.

Sumlin: Eleventy billion years if that's what he wants.

I love the guy, but I don't see his personality translating well to the NFL. He's a college coach.

A&M hasn't lost a HC they didn't fire since Bear Bryant went home to Bama. We were the first school to give a coach a $1 million contract with Jackie Sherrill. We bought Fran from Bama. We don't lose coaches for money if they win. Sumlin is the highest paid coach in the SEC not to have won it and if he wins it or a NC he will quickly make Saban money. You don't spend $450 mill on a Stadium and lose your HC for a few bucks. A&M has some massive donors that will step up if called upon.

Sumlin also has never played or coached in the NFL before. History is firmly against that type of coach being successful making the leap.

He is also a family man with small kids. As HC at A&M he has a lot more flexibility to spend time with them. He left his alma mater for A&M and always said it was his dream job at OU and UH. He also has a much easier job and if he wins it only gets easier. He can get 80% of his recruits within an easy drive from CS and if he wins they will want to come. Sumlin is getting every facility or perk he wants. He got major input on the redesign of Kyle. He has a level of control he will never have in the NFL.

Could he leave? Sure, but Saban is a lot more likely to leave for that matter. At least Saban has NFL experience.
