On the othe hand, a coach that wins the National Championship rarely gets beat that year. And most of those in the SEC did not lose in their championship year in the last 13 years.

That is why I asked for the record of the Teams that a coach beat that year. Every team that has won a NC, have followed up with an average year at some point. The fact that a coach as been around for most of the SECs NC Run, increase those odds.

Les Miles x5
Lloyd Carr x2
Joe Paterno x5
Urban Meyer x2
Gene Chizik x3
Phil Fulmer x4
Mack Brown x1
Bob Stoops x1
Steve Spurrier x1
Lou Holtz x3

That's all I can think of.

Saban has beaten Stoops, Miles, Spurrier, Paterno, Chizik, Meyer, Fulmer, and Mack Brown.

ETA: CapstoneGrad beat me.

Makes sense. I may have misread your motivations. Certainly a team with a coach that has been around for awhile has had more chances.
But remember the coach does not have to have been at his present team to have beaten a Championship coach. Teams with newer head coaches certainly would be at a disadvantage in this discussion, though.

If we are going all time for Saban, throw Jim Tressel in there.

Les Miles has not beaten Bob Stoops since he has been at LSU. He beat him while he was coach of OSU, but Oklahoma and LSU haven't played each other since Miles has been at LSU

As I read the OP he is askig in general.....YOUR current coach, but not necessarily while at your school. I might be wrong about the OP's intent, but that is the way it reads.

I don't think Butch beat any while he was at Cincy or Central Mich but I guess I could be wrong.

That would put him at 1 - Spurrier.

Counting Gene Chizik while he was at Iowa State?

He had one good season in his entire career and it was on the back of Cam. Nobody beat them that year.

So anybody counting Gene Chizik is essentially in the same boat. Dude still has a 'ship.

Obviously with only 2 seasons as an HC under his belt, Gustav hasn't had many opportunities. But the one he did beat was pretty memorable.

Just out of curiosity, I looked up Tubs record for beating NC winning HCs:

Danny Ford
Nick Saban
Steve Spurrier
Joe Paterno
Phil Fulmer
*Frank Beamer* NOPE
Les Miles
Urban Meyer
Bob Stoops

So he has 9 err, 8 currently.

No. Their football history is a BCS title loss, on the back of a generational player, and shitty conference.
