Isn't there a rule that it must be your schools official name or official mascot?

Nope. Hence why UL-Lafayette puts "Louisiana" on their jerseys.

Thought that was the rule too. Maybe it's ok for a spring game though.

You mean the University of Louisiana puts Louisiana on its jerseys? How did that get that idea?

This and because it's a name rather than a slogan. Vandy got in trouble for having Anchor Down on the back of their jerseys.

You need to report this violation to the NCAA so that they will penalize Missouri for the very egregious error of not putting their school name on their jerseys. Call up the compliance office right now so Missouri won't keep doing this violation and breaking the rules for even one more second. I wonder how many scholarships they'll lose over this horrendous violation-hopefully at least 30.

Yeah Vandy got in trouble because they had it as the name. It's fine if it is on the front of the uni

That's not a rule
I've seen Maryland and the service academies put "courage" and "honor" on the back of jerseys

Yeah, nobody here gets it.

Athletic teams do not have to use the official school name that they represent.

I never heard of a rule mandating that teams have to use the school name until the OP claimed it was an NCAA rule.

It's not. Like I said, UL-L uses Louisiana as their official athletic name.

It's because the UL part stands for the University of Louisiana. Why is this so confusing for you?
