Likee Tim from Home Improvement when he would try to pass on Wilson's wisdom to others?

We're gonna absolutely boat race Arkansas this year ... CAN'T
I think if we polled this board, the SEC/all NCAA coaches, and all the media members from every state but Arkansas and Texas, it would be about 90% in favor of Arkansas winning the matchup. Aggy got lucky last season, a questionable "tripping" call away from rejoining their rightful place below Arkansas. Do I need to post the all time record to remind you?

you'd really take Sumlin over Muffin? I could understand Sumlin over McElwain and Mason, but Muffin is the real deal

Nothing questionable about it.

A&M's AD should have dared Sumlin to leave and call him on his bluff.
No way. I don't care if Sumlin is a bust and we waste the money on him AND Chavis, I will always say keeping Sumlin that year was essential.
If we replace Sumlin that offseason, then both us and Texas would have gotten coaches the same offseason. And because they were willing to eat the second largest buyout ever I am pretty sure they would have ended up with a better "on paper" hire.
Which means unless our hire was the best hire in the history of our program we are staring down the barrel of the old way of life when Texas beat us in almost every head-to-head recruitment because the hires sent a clear signal they are the better program. Now because we don't play them and we hired at different cycles its ambiguous whose program is in better shape, and quite frankly any ambiguity benefits us more than them. So $5 millin a year for Sumlin and $1.6 million for Chavis is the best money A&M ever spent.
Add in the fact that there was no coach I wanted in that cycle (or this cycle really) and its a slam dunk. If Sumlin is just a placeholder until Chad Morris learns the ropes of being a head coach I am fine with that. Patience is key, there is always next year.

No, I really just wanted to name a random western coach to appear more objective.

REAL ANSWER:
Well you'd be wrong. He's done much better in a harder league.
In 2011 Sherman took a preseason #8 team to a 6-6 record. Sumlin took the exact same team, minus the #8 draft pick QB, the #1 WR, and #1 RB and won 12 in the SEC.
You win with juniors and seniors on defense. The reason Sumlin did so well in '12 is because the defense was full of 2-3 year starters, and had incredible injury luck. That team was literally one deep at 8/11 defensive positions.
Sherman's last two classes had major holes, especally on defense.(big part of why he was let go)
Snyder was awful, but almost no one could have had a good defense with what's been on campus. All our best defenders have been Sumlin recruits, but they've been young and inexperienced. We've been having to choose between guys that aren't prepared physically/mentally to play or career backups recruited for the big 12.

Sure, post a record that was mostly built in a time when Arkansas was a nationally respected program. It is as relevant as a data point of how many national titles Yale has.

This just oozes little bro, but from a pr standpoint it does make sense

Yeah, I think Chad Morris is going to kill it at SMU. They've got the money and already have a nice stadium. I'm excited to see this multi-million IPF they supposedly have in the works.
It will be interesting to see how long he stays if he turns SMU around fast. No pressure, nice salary, and get to live in Highland Park. You can see the allure of staying long-term
