WTF? Do you even know what the word consensus means? If so, point out title #2 because you weren't even AP national champs in 1942
quote:
Consensus...
noun, plural consensuses.
1.majority of opinion:
The consensus of the group was that they should meet twice a month.
Consensus in terms of a MNC means over half of the recognized polls placed your team at #1...
quote:
Both 1980 and 1942 UGA teams were consensus champions, being chosen by atleast half of the recognized polls.

So much defensiveness, all in one Georgia post
Flashbacks: 1981- Didn't finish in the AP top 5.
1982- 4th in the AP! WOO! A TOP 5 FINISH!!!
2002-- sure, let's give them the benefit of the doubt. Actually finished #3, but never cracked the BCS Top 2, even for a single week. 2007? Please. Entered the BCS bowls with a #5 ranking, and ended up #2 or #3, as 3 teams ahead of them were clipped in BCS games. No-- not a contender.
2012? You mean the team that finished 7th in the final BCS polling? Not a contender, but arguably the 2nd best Georgia team ever, due to who they lost to, and when.
Those 3 consensus national titles, you mean, since then? You know, more than the entire history of Georgia football? Or the 8 SEC titles they've won since '91-- you know, triple your number, even spotting you an extra 10 years? Florida left you in the dust so fast, you still have Percy Harvin skid marks on your back. C'mon Man.
Very comparable. Neither has done much, despite being in extremely fertile recruiting territory.
I didn't say you had nothing-- just no real claim to be a sleeping giant. Still, it is telling just how few of these achievements are since the beginning of divisional play. 2 divisional titles and a top 3 finish. No, that's not much to hang your hat on, compared to a number of SEC schools.
Has won a national title, been denied a chance to play for another while undefeated, and lost another MNC game, in the divisional era-- and they've won more SEC titles in the last decade, than Georgia has in the 22 seasons of divisional play. But hey, aside from success, what do they have going for them next to Georgia?
Remind me again how many BCS NC trophies Georgia won? How many division titles? How many SEC titles in the lifetimes of current players?
A load less than Florida, is the right answer for all of these.
Apart from the actual, you know, national titles, conference championships, etc. since the Reagan administration. Other than that? Carbon, man.
Yep. 1980! Woo....and then? 1946...and 1921. Not hat hanging material, I'm afraid.
I like Georgia, a lot. I root for them, whenever possible...but in a game of 'Which of these is not like the others', they're the clearly different one in the 'Big Six'.
quote:
They've had one serious national title shot (which they won) in the last 60 years
1981
1982
2002
2007
2012
All years we had a serious shot, but ok
Also we have polls claiming the '67 natty for us

Ok, Florida didn't win it's first natty until 1996

There is a massive amount of talent in Georgia, it is true; the Bulldogs usually get their share-- but then again, so does Texas A&M
Not even close to comparable

Of the self-proclaimed 'Big Six', they have the least to really hang their hats upon.
10th all time in wins, 12 SEC Titles, 2 consensus national titles with four others that could be claimed. Yeah we got nothing.

Auburn
Has less wins, less SEC titles, and same number of consensus nattys

Was not relevant until the 90's, we also own the all time record.

Basically a carbon copy in nattys, wins, and SEC titles.

1981- Didn't finish in the AP top 5
Lost to a highly ranked Pitt and lost to the eventual national champions Clemson. We were a Clemson win away from being undefeated going into the bowl game.

Undefeated until we lost to Penn State in the Sugar Bowl. It was virtually the national championship game.

Yeah we were a contender with a serious shot. Had Ohio State not lucked out vs Purdue we would have played Miami
quote:Actually we were, pretty much everyone would agree us and LSU were the two best teams that year. And had the media not shite on us for not winning the East we may have been in the natty. We were in 4th when #1 and #2 lost in the same week the day before the final BCS polls came out

HOLY shite!!! You do know we were five yards from playing Notre Dame right? How is that not being a contender
So you're either trolling you or just some 15 year old kid who found out how to use Google

It isn't playing for the national title; it isn't breaking the top 2 at any point in the season-- and being 3rd only twice in the 15 weeks of BCS standings. That's how it isn't being a contender. It is being the best of the rest-- and keep in mind, that's the best Georgia team in 30 years.
HOLY shite, indeed.

You need to look up what a contender is.

Georgia fans are unbearable though for sure. When they win the gloat and brag like no other. Cocky and act like they're better than everyone. They're like most of my fellow Bama fans. Just without the tradition.
