So the endowment of just our main campus is 6 times that of the whole LSU system?

A&M should try spending some of that money to win a football game or 2.

What's the difference between an endowment and an operational budget?

If you can't answer that without googling, you probably shouldn't make threads about endowments.

I think your numbers are off for us. Last I heard, at the Vanderbilt chapter of the Rosicrucians (or was it the Rastafarians? I can't rightly recall), ours was somewhat north of $4 billion, not including the value of all the rubber bands we use to hold our stacks of money together.

Also, we don't have to share with other branches. That sort of nonsense was never taught in our kindergartens.

That's easy enough. Endowments, by and large, are principle. You don't touch the endowments themselves without an extremely good reason.

All I ever hear/heard from A&M faculty and administration is how the school doesnt have $$.

This thread makes me want to scrap the entire sorry higher education system in the US. I can't believe people give this kind of money to horribly inefficient government institutions so that their kids can go and learn how to drink and frick there. Anyone with initiative can learn more sitting at home with a computer than spending four to eight years at one of these money draining shite boxes where all of the professors sit on their arse and rake in exorbitant salaries working 5 to 10 hours a week.

Man, it's not often you see a fan of the Homeschool University Fightin' Crabapples on this message board devoted to college sports.

The OP wanted to talk about endowments. Think about the amount of money in the US under management by what are supposed to be institutions of education.

Oh and to the OP, if you want to be impressed by endowments, check out the Ivy League.

Some private institutions do better.

Emory University has a $6.684 billion endowment. And no football team.

Yea you can learn more sitting on a computer. I can also learn more sitting in a library reading all the books. What youre learning is what I am looking at.

If that first part was literally your point, I guess youre right.

Im talking about a specific degree and the training and/or instruction you get at a school compared to the computer.
