Hadn't got that rule changed yet, what with trying to ban Auburn's offense the past two offseasons. I'm sure it is coming.
Looks like Gus banned Auburn's offense on his own.

There is a reason so many teams schedule Bama after a bye

So, by your logic, all the other teams get to choose their schedule; and UA has to accept what schedule they are given?

However, Alabama also has a bye week before the LSU game. Seems like both teams have had a bye week prior to the game for several years now
I did a post about this several months ago (maybe even last season). Bama (and LSU) took a by before their game against each other for like eight of the past ten years (or more).

But we are not rivals.

LSU's bye week hasn't changed much since prior to Saban landing in Tuscaloosa. It wasn't always before the Bama game either. It's been before the 1st week of November or right after each year dating back to Saban's days at LSU.

If anything LSU is the most consistent with bye week scheduling.

Our next three opponents are off the week before they play us. one year we played 7 teams that were off the week before they played us. I think it is just how it works out sometimes.

conference opponents respect you enough to want an extra week to prepare

This is the answer.

No other team in the sec has played even half the number of SEC teams with a bye week to prepare, than The University of Alabama in the past 8-10 years.

I don't think anyone is scared...especially of LSU...and especially since Bama also has a bye before that game. If anything, LSU is the one team Bama shouldn't be scared of for this very reason.

I don't think it's about being scared. I think it just shows respect for the opponent and the want to be prepared and rested.

I looked up the "helmet schedule" which shows all schedules on one page and only 3 SEC teams play more than one game where the opponent is coming off of a bye:

Bama plays LSU, Tennessee and A&M
LSU plays Bama and Ole Miss
Auburn plays Kentucky and Arkansas
All the other teams only play one team coming off of a bye.

Is it fair? Hell, I don't know.

I can see the logic in scheduling a bye before your toughest opponent, but I can also see the logic in doing just the opposite.

If I were the coach, and I have input on my schedule, I'd want to schedule an out-of-conference "cupcake" immediately proceeding my toughest opponent and then schedule my bye the week after to have the extra time to recuperate before the remainder of the schedule.

But hey, what the hell do I know. I'm just a Facility Engineer, not an overpaid college football coach.
