imo, that is what the SEC should do. it would create and issue with the number of home games per year but that is still more fair than the present system. it also would be more fun for the fans. c'mon, it's much too long between games against all opponents (except the perm. one) in the other division now. the present system, due to expansion, erodes the conference unity.

Or just keep cross division permanent rival. Rotate the other two. Every other year each division rotates between playing 5 and 4 home conference games.
That way you have a home and home with everyone every 6 years instead of 12

That's a good solution, because it keeps the rotation simple, with only a 4-year gap between playing each rotational team.

or do the crosses in 3 year rotations instead of back to back

You would see everyone once every 3 years and you would avoid running into somebody up for 2 years in a row.

You have 3 each home and away in div, one each in the crosses, and the permanent is the odd one that determines your 4 or 5 home game total

Good idea!

Incredibly dumb post. This shouldn't be considered until contract renegotiations.

Also, teams can schedule whoever they want. Bama doesn't have to schedule two OOC patsies. They do so because they want those easy games.

Saban has tried to get the SEC to go to 9 league games for at least the last 4 years. No go.

Because there's no way to compare teams if you don't share teams on your schedules. Divisions allow that.

The out of balance home - away game negative argument against the 9 game schedule is easily settled with all the West having 4 home games one year, the next year, they all have 5 home games.
LSU is already practicing this 5 home game schedule, so it will be easy transition for them.
