When you can go to a store and buy Ole Miss championship gear for multiple years then Ole Miss will have a argument about catching up to LSU

Buying "championship" t-shirts at the Walmart is so completely trailer trash, sidewalk, ghey.

Keep it up.

Be honest, you wish you could buy an Ole Miss championship t-shirt at Wal-Mart

Wouldn't that mean that Ole Miss has to be the best team in Mississippi 1st?

Honest question.

Ole Miss's biggest football accomplishment is beating Alabama in the regular season. So, no.

LSU:

Last SEC title, 2011
Last losing season, 1999

So the last time LSU won anything special was 2011? Seems to support the thread's premise.

What is the date for Ole Miss's last:

Sec Championship?
National title?
Losing season?

The point, guy, is that LSU actually has won something meaningful.

I don't think so, but the added competition is great for the conference.

Sometimes it takes getting your arse kicked around to really focus on more than one team like we have over the last few years.

They have potential but every year they have letdowns like at Florida and at Memphis. Beating Bama is a big deal, however. Bama doesn't lose much.

Ole Miss definitely beat the crap out of us this year, but most of us weren't even mad because we thought les was packing his bags and soon to be ousted, especially after that display.

If they ever make it to ATL and win a championship, then we can have the conversation again.

Listing historical wins and accomplishments is pointless, as the question was aimed at the current state of the program. Ole Miss has for the first time in my lifetime established themselves as a long term threat and becoming a national program. The 2016 season and schedule will be tough, even with a proven quarterback. I think our offense and quarterback play will keep us competitive, and possibly in the hunt. I'd say we are currently neck and neck with LSU for a strong second in the West. To say we have surpassed LSU will take a trip and win in Atlanta, with our best shot being the 17-18 campaigns. That also assumes LSU stays on their current path and doesn't improve, which I'm not hopeful for. Les is still bringing in talent, and has what it takes to make a run for it as soon as this season. All he needs is a serviceable quarterback and a some changes to the offense. As stubborn as he might be, I think he opens it up some this year. Not sure if it works, but I think he will.

So no, we have not surpassed LSU, but I truly believe we are tied with them right now. If Les has another mediocre year or two and proves he doesn't have what it takes and we win the SEC, then we can rehash this topic. I honestly think our best chance to jump them as a program will be Les getting fired and we pull ahead as LSU transitions with a new coach...or he just continues to underachieve and stays on board while our projection continues upward.

Cliff Notes for the hungover: No. We have to win something first, and LSU has to not improve. Right now we're tied, and most likely will stay that was for the foreseeable future with both programs capable of making a run for it all the next few years.

For ole miss to truly contend for the west and sec in '17 and '18 freeze has to amp up his defensive recruiting big time. You are not just going to outscore everybody. Some days the "O" just has an off day or they meet up with a dominating "D".

Considering the '14, '15 and '16 recruiting classes will be the backbone for the '17 and '18 teams I like the chances of the tigers staying ahead of the rebs.

LSU's '14 and '15 classes were both very much higher ranked than the rebs classes. Both had stellar '16 classes but everyone still had LSU above ole miss.

As for the '16 season I like LSU's chances in tiger stadium. Bringing back 18 starters is unheard of for Les and LSU.
