USP. Even though only about 1/4th ever make it to a campus
I hate acronyms, what is USP? Remember, I come from the eastern division of the SEC.

Pahokee has to be combined with Belle Glade(The Muck).Together they small region of Florida is probably the most talented in the country. These are the rabbit chasing guys that were on ESPN.Unreal speed down there. Also Cleveland,OH,Houston area of Texas,Hampton Roads,VA, and the West part of PA.

Talking about per capita and whatnot, in the early 90s it was ridiculous how many D1 prospects came out of the eastern MS gulf coast area - Pascagoula, Moss Point
Alabama had a bunch of good players, on the roster, from that area in the 90s.

South Panola
Never heard of it. I did a little research and their record is as impressive as Independence in Charlotte, North Carolina which had Cris Leak, Mo Mass and Joe Cox.
109 game winning streak is very impressive, but is hardly a hotbed of putting players in the NFL.

Deshea Towsend and Dwayne Rudd were from South Panola, and played at Alabama. Pretty solid NFL career for Towsend. Rudd washed out in the NFL.

Most don't have the grades for college

Putting players in the NFL? yes you are correct. But as far as producing D1-caliber football players? Without a doubt. For a town the size of Batesville, there have been many many D1 players come out of USP and the scary thing is that there might've been twice as many if they could all qualify. If the South Panola School District would really put forth a huge effort to get all players eligible, USP would be known across the nation.
Not being a homer here. I am a south MS boy and grew up watching teams from my area have great teams and great seasons to then only get SMASHED by USP in Jackson for the state title.
My only point is that if USP could get 75-80% of their guys to qualify, they would send 5-8 guys D1 almost every year. I can name off about ten guys from the past 3-4 years that would've been very very good D1 players if they could've qualified. But instead they take their bad off the field habits to Northwest Miss CC (aka Tate State), play 2 years, and end up doing oil changes in Batesvegas.
In the end, I would love to see SP change the culture and start at a young age and make these unreal corn-fed athletes realize how important academics are to their futures.
Aight, sorry, I am done.

Cincinnati/Dayton, Ohio
Had over 50 players D1 scholarships this year.
Schools include: Ohio State, Texas, LSU, Notre Dame, Cincinnati, Miami OH, Kentucky, Michigan State, just to name a few.

Alabama can thank that area for Shaun Alexander, although he did go to high school across the state line in Kentucky.

I don't mean to flame, but I had one of those "I didn't know that" moments a few months back, when some UM fans were explaining that the reason for the below the mean academic standing of higher education in Mississippi was due to an "across the board" entrance requirement. Acceptance to UM or MSU is the same as acceptance to any other state supported school. That was my take.
If that is the case, why aren't these athletes playing for the flagship schools.
Is Houston Nutt putting these sub-marginal academic athletes in a CC to see if they are literate in the hopes that they can become a Div.1 athlete? That's actually admirable.

As far as I know they just don't have the grades and/or ACT scores. I am not copping out and just saying that about the ones OM has missed on. I am speaking of the guys he couldn't meet any NCAA requirements and never played anywhere. Guys like qb/db La'roy Diggs, ( was said to be a clone of derek peques but better) who would be an all-sec corner right now if he could've qualified.

Nutt said from day one in Oxford that he wanted to take advantage of the great Juco system we have in MS. I would say he has done that since being here, signing guys like Mackey (who he signed and placed), Wayne Dorsey, and Damien Jackson.
But the particular trend I was talking about (guys sputtering out due to bad academic habits and off the field issues) has been going on for the past decade.
