I'm from Georgia and an inordinate amount of recruits (not just UGA) come from Warner Robins, Valdosta/Lowndes County and Gwinnett County.

Alabama has Mobile and Gadsden. Florida seems to have a lot from the Pahokee area.

Anywhere else?

The North MS/North LA area, pretty much the whole MS River Delta area of MS, LA, and Ark has really churned out some good players over the years.

Destrehan, LA and the entire state of Texas

Gadsden

Always had good players come from this area with Brodie Croyle; Caddilac(attalla); Don Sutton; Robert Williams; etc. but it wasn't really a hot bed. Now that the three high schools have merged that you get a lot of attention for Gadsden prospects like Kirkpatrick, Johnson, Swain, and Collins and it has been labelled a hotbed. Without the merger you would probably still have scattered guys every once in a while but no real consensus that Gadsden was a recruiting hotbed.

Yeah, I could see larger cities having more recruits, but it's the per capita aspect that has always intrigued me.

I used to work with an Auburn alum and he said Fairhope gave out more div.1 schollys per capita than Mobile. By a wide margin.

This is correct. and generally it has been Ole Miss territory...not UT.

So where is the recruiting in a comparable sized city like Knoxville. Hell, Athens was a heavily recruited area in the '80's.

w/o a doubt, the merger of the gadsden schools is the reason it can be considered a "hot bed".

I guess places like B'ham and Mobile are hotbeds, but they're also the two largest metro areas in Alabama, so of course it's gonna have talent.

I place like Auburn/Opelika fits better, IMO... there's been a ton of SEC level talent come through there over the last decade or so.... Prattville/Millbrook as of late has produced as well.

Talking about per capita and whatnot, in the early 90s it was ridiculous how many D1 prospects came out of the eastern MS gulf coast area - Pascagoula, Moss Point

Shane Mathews - Moss Point or "The Point" - heisman qb at UF

Jack Jackson - Moss Point WR with Shane Mathews; starter @ UF

Terrell Buckley - Pascagoula - DB FSU, NFL all-pro

There are prob several others that went D1 that I don't even know about.

Jackson, MS Metro area is a HUGE HOTBED for Basketball recruits.

They usually have 3X as many D1 basketball signees as the rest of the state combined.

They always pump out tons of NBA Talent

Mo WIlliams
Monta Ellis
Lindsey Hunter
James Robinson
Othella Harrington

Just off the top of my head.
