Here's my take.

We have a tall task of winning in Oxford. That has to be done, and if that's not done - Iron Bowl doesn't matter.

If we do beat Ole Miss, then the chips will fall where they fall. If Bama wins, we are in the discussion to play for the national championship. If Auburn wins, we will play for the SEC Championship and a guaranteed spot in the playoff.

We're MSU. We're not Bama, Ohio State, or Florida. Even with a loss to Ole Miss, we're likely in the flipping Orange Bowl. MSU. in the Orange Bowl.

If we beat Ole Miss, this will be my order of cheering Saturday:

1. Florida over Florida State
2. Auburn over Alabama

If neither of those happen, we'd only need one of the following to happen next week to cement a spot.

Georgia/Mizzou over Alabama
Wisconsin over Ohio State
UCLA over Oregon
Georgia Tech over Florida State
Kansas State over Baylor

Just one of those five happens and we are 99% in.

Why exactly are you so worried about State fans and "whats going on in their minds"?

This thread is permeating fear.

What if Bama loses the SEC CG and then MSU gets picked over Bama?

Even if one of the above happen, they may still get snubbed for a Big12 round-robin champion.

frick no.

And no way in hell a 1 loss OSU goes over a one loss MSU.

Have you not been paying any attention to the committee?

It really blows my mind how Bama fans come up with this shite, fool themselves into believing it, and then have the nerve to come in here and tell us how ignorant we are for thinking we'll get in.

fricking hysterical.

I missed where they said the committee was going to identify the best 4 conference champions.

They most definitely said they would give weight to conference champions. From their own website:

The Best Four Teams
The selection committee will choose the four teams for the playoff based on strength of schedule, head-head results, comparison of results against common opponents, championships won and other factors.

This is one of the scenarios that I outlined in my OP. Not as likely as Alabama losing to Auburn, but still a possibility. Learn to read.

Weight to conference champions =/= 4 best conference champions being selected.

Won't be no complaints here. I'm in favor of highest ranked in conference going in that scenario.

I have been paying attention. And they have not been playing the "what-if" game. Right now, there are no conference champions to give weight to. In two weeks, there will be 5 of them. Unless Alabama loses to Auburn, MSU won't be one of them.

Quite honestly, of the other 3 in the top-4 right now, Alabama would have the easiest time with MSU.

Yeah, I get this. What we don't know is how big of a boost tOSU will get for winning more games and winning a conference championship.

Also, my guess is that the VT loss will be somewhat forgiven given the extenuating circumstances:

1) Only second game of the year
2) First game against D-1 level competition (service academies don't count)
3) Braxton Miller went out right before the season started.

I'm not saying that it makes tOSU better than State, I'm saying the committee will put them in the play-off over State.

If you follow the link you posted to the committee's website, it specifically says "Every game counts".

I'm guessing that does not exclude Ohio State vs. Virginia Tech.
