UF's defense the last 20 years has given up, on the average, less than 19 points per game.
Uf's defense the last 2 years has actually been BELOW that average, giving up 21.1 PPG in 2013 and 21.1 PPG again in 2014.
nana love math

That would probably make y'all a top 15 defense in the nation, and I don't really see that at this point.
Why wouldn't UF allow less than 20 PPG? It's not like there are a ton of great offenses on the schedule, half of UF's opponents are replacing QBs.
UF was top 15 in most defensive statistics last year... and they return most of the team...

You understand that when I say below, I mean worse, as in, they gave up MORE points per game, but their defensive averages were lower, because when you talk about defense, bigger numbers are bad... mmmkay?

Whatever your situation was 20 years ago couldn't be any less meaningful relating to this season. Collins has been UF's DC for exactly 0 games, so no, we don't know how good they'll be and the stats from 20 years ago don't prove anything.
Stats don't effect what happens the next year. It's not what I'm saying at all. I'm saying UF has set a trend, over a long period, of having good defenses regardless of the head coach.
So I don't see why expecting the defense to be good is all that weird.
Especially when you get down to it and consider the strength of the personnel.

Gators aren't getting much love from the preseason predictions. I wouldn't worry about it. I would not be surprised if UF challenged for the East.

The Gators have athletes and talent, no matter what any of the posters on this board may think, and if Florida can improve at all on offense, they will be dangerous this year. I'm thinking 8-4 (4-4) and 3rd in the East behind UGA and Mizzou, and tied with Tennessee (and the Gators winning head to head against the Vols to be in 3rd place)
I think thats about right.

Brandon Harris...he of the AU start going something like 3 for 14? Are you LSU fans that simple?
Predictions are like elbows...everyone has a couple of them. Means nothing. I myself think we go 10-2 and maybe win the east. The east is up for grabs, all the teams in the east and west have warts.
Our defense will be stout and keep us in every game. Offensively, I see improvement. Special teams will be steady. We have a LOT of 4 star & 5 star talent on our roster, a lot. If we don't suffer injuries our OL will be fine.
Dawgs: we were a thunderstorm and dropped pass in end zone from being 9-4 with bowl win....and if you recall...we had the girls school on the ropes after picking off the raptist FOUR TIMES in first quarter, leading them 9-0 with the ball on their 11 yd line and we were fixing to score...then the same TE who dropped easy pass in end zone against LSU, lets a pass richochet and get picked off and taken back 93 yds...to turn the game around ...we still lost by what...4 points? Bama, Mizzou games were not good...but other that we weren't beat badly. USCe game was a head scratcher....sort of like you guys losing to them.
BTW I predict UGA having a good shot at beating Bama at home. Tough games against USCe,UT,Mizzou,AU and the pocket protector wearing Techs. I see 3 ls with 4 possible as worse case and 2 losses as best case.
The winner of the east will have 2 losses and I think 2 losses for winner of west unless AU can manage to win all their home games and road game against LSU. Bama will lose 2-3 games. AU has the advantage in the west.

Y'all lost 5 players who started against us IIRC (Orr, Cummings, Ball, Fowler, and Taylor). Your DBs should still be filthy, and I think y'all played without Orr for a little last season, but it's not like you're returning 9 starters.

Orr barely played last year, and quit on the team before the Vanderbilt game.
Neiron Ball is the 2nd biggest loss off of the team last year, he was the only player besides Fowler that got drafted on defense. 4th or 5th round I think, but he wasn't all that productive last year, although he was solid.
Cummings and Taylor were decent players, but there isn't any reason why losing either of them would be a back breaker for the defense.

All I keep hearing is that UF is only in front of Vandy and (maybe) UK this year.
Your solution is easy:
Stop listening.

Oh shite I thought you said Guinness.
Posted on 8/14/15 at 11:29 am to boXerrumble
you could easily be better than last year and STILL only finish ahead of UK and Vandy..

exactly!

that oline situation yall have is pretty rough. if you can stay healthy on the oline it wouldnt suprise me if you won 10 games, but uga takes the east this year.

Yes, having a (really I don't know what to expect here) shaky OLine is UF's biggest problem, but after only losing Fowler on defense and having better offensive coaches in place, how exactly is UF going to be worse record wise?
If Florida has ANY kind of ball control to keep their elite defense off the field, they will be better than expected.

I don't have time to look it up, but how many points are scored on average last year as opposed to 20 years ago. I'd venture to say that the average number of points scored has almost doubled.
