I hope he's in New York, he deserves national recognition for his accomplishments on a personal level.
By the way, whenever I talk about who SHOULD win the Heisman, I'm going off the criteria that is pretty much established by the voting public, not the mission statement. The mission statement is so far off the actual voting pattern that it's irrelevant. The real criteria is "best offensive skill player who has impressed us most and has stats to back it up, and hasn't choked when we decided he was in a big game. And also, needs to have a 'Heisman Moment' where we slobber over a display of athleticism, regardless of the soundness or the result."

Honestly unbiased here: I agree. I think AJ *may* be the best college qb in the country, but I don't think he has the numbers this year to back that up regardless of why - the fact that we are always winning in the second half has a lot to do with this, but the fact remains the numbers aren't there.
I think he is the third best QB in the conference. Anyone who thinks he is better than Murray, hasn't watched any football games that their team do not participate. JFF has had to carry an entire team on his back.

I don't recall the last time I saw someone worried enough to establish an anti-Heisman campaign, at least not before the finalists were even announced.
Eh. I don't particularly care if they make it a de facto lifetime achievement award in the absence of any clear frontrunner. The Nobel Prize in Literature does that all the time.

I've watched Murray, thanks. At times, he is the best qb in the country. At times, so is Mettenberger.
Johnny Jump Ball is a phenomenon. He is also a turnover machine. The amazing outweighs the bad, but for an elite quarterback I'd rather have a little less amazing and a lot more ball protection.
I am not saying AJ is the best qb in the country. I am saying we don't have enough evidence because he doesn't stay in and run up numbers. When I watch him in the big games, I'm impressed. But the point is that he does not have the resume at this point, not that I think he deserves being called the best.

Auburn fan citing lack of passing as reason to diminish greatness...

Ron Dayne just called. He says this precedence is just fine, and that Ladanian Tomlinson and Drew Brees can kiss his arse.

it is a tad humorous. Do we support Winston? Do we start mentioning some Boston College player we don't even know what his name is? Do we mention stats, stats, and more stats?

I can not remember the last time the masses challenged what the talking heads were pushing. The Heisman is for the best player in College Football, not a lifetime achievement award. If you think AJ fits that discription, Basketball season must have started for you.

Do you see any AU fans pushing for Marshall? They understand the criteria of the Heisman.

The funny thing is your complaint is not with Bama fans, it's with the sportscasters. Every time I watch Gary Danielson, he's touting AJ. Almost every Bama fan I've seen says AJ deserves mention but doesn't deserve the Heisman.

7 games where he passed for less than 190 yards.
Any particular reason why you picked 190? How bout 189 or 188?

It seems most voters wouldnt agree. When veiwed objectively, SI poses a valid question. Not is he the greatest this year, but is he among the greatest ever?
No. Not even close.

I could have used 187, but 190 is a nice round number.

Brees shoulda won a national title, dammit.
Actually, I don't think Dayne beat out Tomlinson, but I know he beat out Brees one year. In any event, that's why I did clarify about the absence of a clear frontrunner. That's probably why Sullivan, who somebody mentioned above, won it. He was a mediocre quarterback by Heisman standards, but the next in line was a running back from the Ivy League.

I didn't remember Tomlinson in 1999, but the site I looked up indicated he had the most yards per game and much higher yards per carry. I do remember Alexander being clearly the better running back of the two, but having some injuries that caused him to miss games early and then underperform once or twice.

Meh. I think the Heisman is such an overrated award. If it weren't for the pub and the potential for a recruiting bump, I don't really care who gets the 'Popular QB on a Good Team' Award.

I forgot about Alexander (not in general, I mean, just that he would have been running in college at that point.)
Here, I tracked down the Heisman voting for that year (you can just change the number in the URL to quickly change between years.)
LINK
Tomlinson averaged 6.5 ypc that year. Ironically, that went down to 5.8 the next year, when he actually was a finalist for the Heisman.
