Campbell said Malzahn tried to get Mustain to follow him to Tulsa where he became the offensive coordinator in 2007. Mustain has also mentioned that he and his former coach speak occasionally, and that Malzahn offered him a spot as a graduate assistant on his Auburn staff.

I was wondering why Mitch didn't go to Tulsa so thanks for answering that question.

Ol' Mitch ignored Ol' Gus and went to USC on his own volition to make his future fame and fortune on his own.

Yup.

He bought his own hype.

I watched the "Bo, Barkley & Big Hurt" SEC Storied last night. Barkley dished out some sage advice for young men as to where to go to school. He said go where you know you'll play. He went to Auburn in no small part because they desperately needed him and told him he'd play right away. Bo Jackson said much the same as to why he didn't go to Bama.

Mitch chose poorly. He went to a place that didn't really need him and didn't develop him.

I wonder what this thread would look like if Saban was the coach being trashed by the mother of a former player.

Did Saban try to get the player to follow him to a different school to play QB and offer him a job on his staff?

The entire article appears to be taken out of context. She wants Gus to say Houston screwed him and lied to him. Gus has tried to help Mitch in many ways.

It may have been a shitty situation, he'll I'm sure it was with that narcissistic a-hole HDN. But at the end of the day, if he had been worth a shite he would have played at USC, right? If I am remembering it right he was 3rd string at USC by the end of it.

The 3 ring circus that Gus threw him into stunted his growth as a QB by totally fricking him up in the head. Turned the kid into a headcase and he never recovered.
Eh, I think it's more likely that the decision to follow his Springdale teammate Damien Williams to USC that torpedoed his career.

The question is, who convinced Williams to transfer to the Trojans? My guess is it was whomever was their OC in late December '06. If memory serves, he got Williams to sign up with USC, and probably put the bug in Mustain's ear as well. IIRC, the deceitful bastard OC didn't even stick around to coach the two poor lost Arkies, but bolted for the NFL before spring practice started.

Find the identity of that a-hole, Mrs. Mustain, and go after him. That's my advice.

Gus refused to man up and stand up to the douche Nutt. He simply made a promise to several young men and convinced them not to go to Florida, USC, Alabama, ETC. if they would follow him to Arkansas where he would be their OC and promised them the moon. When Nutt did what Nutt does, Gus simply left without any fight, without sharing the truth and left those kids to fight without their leader, the man they trusted and thought the world of. He made his way without them, used them, and moved on. He showed no care, compassion and was a complete douche about the situation and has never stood up for what was the right things to do after all of this time.

He then takes thugs on his team kicked off of everywhere else, shows very little remorse of their way of doing things. The Dyer situation comes to mind. Drug tests, Gun Possession, Busted over and over and he takes him to ASU in Jonesboro... And a cover up got blown by a FOI request. A trooper lost his job, Dyer was let go forced by the higher ups and instead of turning ASU into the "Boise of the south" as promised. Gus leaves again.

Yes, it happens often, many coaches do it. But they usually do not promote their espoused "Christian Beliefs" and "Family" while doing so. Gus is the reason Gus gets this blame. It isn't success, or jealousy but his actions speak louder than words in how he treats other human beings he uses. I know personally a sports reporter who knows the complete story, almost got fired for trying to bring it to light but he tried over and over and finally quit trying. Why? Because nobody will take on Gus and the powers than support him.

Most of you will say "Sour grapes" and make fun of this post. I don't care, for I know what happened. Gus and Nutt belong together in memory and lack of fondness for who they are, what they are, and how they have treated others.

Gus is an amazing Offensive Coach, and salesman to recruits. He is also what is said above.

Anyways...COntinue on!

You Arkansas hillbillies and your obsession in trying to turn Gus into some type of devil is absolutely totally fricking laughable especially since Arkansas has had no problem hiring a proven cheater like Danny Ford and a proven scumbag like Bobby Petrino as their own football coach since joining the SEC. 99 percent of people at Auburn don't give a fying frick about Arkansas, so you hibillies really need to get over your weird obsession with our coach

HERES THE TRUTH.

Nobody gives a shite. Whatever may be true here is local arkansas bullshite.

Go focus on Petrino fricking coeds. Or Bert being a fat arse loser. Or Clinton fricking interns, or Walmart being a cesspool.

Whatever the frick ever. Take your piggy asses back to the Southwest Conference and get the frick out of the SEC.

(you may now return to your normal rant)

What a bunch of horseshite the article in the OP is.

The Mustain mom sounds like a travel ball parent, threatening to sue a coach because their kid didn't make it to the big leagues.

Her mentality is indicative of a growing cancer in amateur sports.

So you are bitter because Gus was an excellent recruiter, got kids to commit to a bottom dweller team like Arkansas, then left because he had didnt want to coach under Nutt? Its obvious Gus did the job he was paid to do and found a better job that wasnt as stressful. Good for him.

Pretty sure this was a whole big thing back when he was there like 8 years ago, then went to USC and sat the bench.

And NOW hearing more bs about it, so ya.
