What leverage does Arkansas have to negotiate a lower buyout? What a pipedream.
For example:
We fire CBB and he is guaranteed 11 million over the next 3 years.
But he is hired by College A for 9 million over the next 3 years....Arkansas would only have to pay him 2 million over the next 3 years and he would only make 11 million those 3 years.
But
You negotiate a 4.5 million lump sum buyout he is hired by College A for 9 million he makes 13.5 million those 3 years.
That is why CBB would accept it.

Arkansas doesn't have the money to pay for his buyout plus attract a good coach.
Arkansas does have the money to pay for his buyout and buy a very cheap coach, so either way, it's going to end badly for arky and the arkansas losing streak to A&M will continue.
Somebody doesn’t understand how contracts work

It will be a looooong spring and summer for Bertrum if he decides to stick around.
Most of his teams have been straight up trash. I know it, he knows it, everybody knows it. Bert thrives on people eating up his philosophy and attitude. Him staying now is good for nobody. Especially himself considering the state of his health.
on top of all that he'll probably spend the rest of the season kindly telling the fanbase to kiss his arse which won't be a good look either.

Don't forget Jen, she'll have some 70 iq comment to tweet out too.

It's going to turn out very badly if that's the case, for both the University and Bret. He'll tell the fanbase to kiss his arse and the fan base will push back in typical crazy-arse Arkansas fan base fashion. Then we'll look like crazy idiots in the national press, we won't be able to get a coach worth a damn to come in, and we'll have to hire John L back.
That's about par for the course the last several years.

National signing day is February 7th. If you guys wait until January to fire him you will completely frick up the 2018 recruiting class. Losing 1 whole recruiting class will set you back 2 seasons alone on top of bringing in a new coach and system.
Arkansas will only sign 13-14 kids this class. Most of those will sign in December and enroll early.

12.4 is the number I heard. May have already been renegotiated.
$11.9 on January 2nd.
Someone told you wrong or you just thought of a number to make yourself sound in the know.

It's gonna depend on a few things between now and then.
Someone said something about "if he decides to stick around." That ain't happening. He will not coach the hogs next season and you can take that to the bank.
As far as the buyout amount at the end of the day, it's probably gonna depend on how bad things get between now and the Mizzou game. Or maybe not. Maybe the people working the process right now have already got this thing figured. But I could imagine a scenario where they get rid of him early if it gains them a competitive advantage. Maybe firing him mid-season lands them a top name. But I agree with others saying it's probably best to wait for the buyout to drop.

Thing that upsets me about all this is that this buyout wouldn't be any sort of real concern to begin with if it weren't for those stadium renovations.
I'm not so sure Jeff Long doesn't need to go as well.

Something about knee-jerk firings and interim coaches just leaves a bad LSU vibe with the program. Looks like that may be where we're headed though.
Clemson did that back in '08, & it's worked out pretty well there. I guess it just depends on who the person is.

How about this plan. Bert is a Big 10 coach. Nebraska is a Big 10 school that needs a coach.
Bert owns a red windbreaker.
Arkansas would let him go if Bert would withdraw any claims on his remaining contract.
Arkie free to hire the outgoing Oregon State coach.
Everyone wins.

I'm with you except we don't want Oregon State's coach.
