I can't imagine what it feels like to get defensive over Gus Malzahn.

We had above average luck in 2013 but not a massive amount

bruh. even AUBURN fans refer to the Georgia win as the "Prayer in Jordan Hare". ESPN did a documentary called "Miracles on the Plains". Not "Above Average Luck on the Plains". Miracles on the Plains.

Gus just made fantastic coaching decisions

Which coaching decision did he make to create the result of the Prayer at Jordan Hare? The underneath receiver was WIDE open and would have had the 1st down. Marshall made a poor decision to go deep into double coverage and was the beneficiary of poor D. If Marshall had done what Gus' coaching designed the play to do, AU would have had the first down for sure, but the TD would have taken more work.
Look at the guy at the 50 at about the 12 second mark. WIDE open = first down on the 4th & 18 play...Marshall throws into triple coverage instead and it results in a TD. That's not "above average luck"

As for the Kick Six, that will go down as one of the greatest plays in CFB history. That said, only FOUR times since 1950 has a missed FG been returned for a TD in CFB. Only ONCE has it happened on the final play of the game. That play was the Kick Six. 100+ teams playing 12+ games per year for 60+ years = 72,000+ games. The Kick Six has happened once in 72,000 opportunities. That is certainly NOT "above average" luck.

previous post is not meant as a knock on Malzahn. He's not without flaws, but he's better as a coach than some in this thread are trying to make him seem.

Gus Malzhan? He's like the head coach version of the smoking hot girl that reveals she's 17 after a few dates.

What's the problem? The age of sexual consent in Alabama is 16.

I mean, we've won 2 sec championships and 1 national championship in the past 5. Gus was a part of all of them.

Am I missing something?...

'11... 8-5
'12... 3-9
'13... 12-2... SECC
'14... 8-5
'15... 7-6

Actually I kind of thought we had righted the ship and I was really optimistic heading into the UGA game, but we just fell apart in the second half. All off-season has been pretty bad so far with the exception of the recruiting class.

I legitimately thought he had a step on everyone else as far as offensive philosophy goes. Thought that combined with Saban's (at the time) inability to adjust the not getting to substitute on defense with the HUNH meant a lot of good things for us operating in the SEC West.

Until 2014 TAMU, I still believed that. That dream is kinda dead now.
The same thing wins that's always won: consistent execution by disciplined and talented athletes.

These gimmick offenses give a team that doesn't have consistent execution by disciplined and talented athletes an edge, but they are dependent upon two things:

1. having the right players - Manzel, Newton, Tebow, etc. - who don't grow on trees and every up and comer team like Auburn and aTm wants them because they make workable substitutes for good coaching and discipline. The chances of any program getting that type of player(s) every year are slim, so there goes your consistency as a team, guaranteeing this kind of up and down record.

2.their ability to confuse a defense. But that ability is diminished with every play, as the more they play, the more they show tendencies and more time the defense has to react and figure out how to stop it. This happened with the wishbone, the wildcat, the single wing, etc., and now it's happening with the HUNH.

Gus Malzahn - $4.1million per year. 54% SEC winning percentage. 1 SEC championship in 3 seasons.

Kevin Sumlin - $5 million per year. 53% SEC winning percentage. No SEC or division titles in 4 seasons. But has swag.
