How can a team that is ranked no. 1 in the preseason and then go wire to wire win the national championship not win the offseason championship WHEN THEY'RE RANKED NO. 1 IN THE PRESEASON? That makes literally zero sense, appears here you presented a subjective-arse-based question rather than use objective logic. Sad sad.

Because the OP is referring to Internet forums predictions and delusions from certain fan bases like tRant, Rivals, and whatever other college message boards there are. That is what he means by off season championship, not what ESPN or the general media is hyping. Tennessee and Auburn have won nearly all the SEC off-season championships as long as I've been on this board.

Reporters have had an abysmal record predicting the East. Basically, the past twenty years the only times they've gotten right was when there was a dominant team like Tebow's UF. IIRC, they had 5 accurate predictions in 20 years.
For those mentioning Bama... I write that off to being 'duh' because like when Tebow was at UF, Bama is simply dominate right now.
