Has the offseason champion ever won an actual football championship?

People predict Alabama to win every offseason.

I'd say yes.

Florida State went wire to wire no. 1 and won the title, best team of the 90s

Do I really need to define off-season champion?

They were ranked no. 1 in preseason therefore they were the offseason champion, is this logic not computing?

Well I would say Alabama has done it at least once, but since Tennessee and Auburn win the offseason championship every year, I guess that it actually hasn't happened.

sigh. Preseason ranking has a weak correlation with offseason championships. That's why Tennessee has won 3 or 4 in a row.

Maybe 2009, but not sure if tRant was around then. I don't remember who won offseason in 2011. Texas A&M won 2012. Tennessee won 2015.

All you had to do was say this thread was about Tennessee.

Man who knows. I can't really remember that far back.

I was wrong about 2012. Texas A&M won the 2013 offseason. Bama may have won the 2012 offseason with the momentum after 1/9/12.

2010 Auburn is a good guess also. Coming off the cam recruitment, I could see them taking 2010 offseason.

Considering how bad we melted after that, this makes sense.

I wasn't here then, but I doubt that was the case. Nobody really knew what we had in Cam.

I wasn't here and can't speak for tRant, but my Auburn friends were making bold predictions about Cam and the 2010 season. The sad thing for me as a Bama fan is that they underestimated him. I heard a lot of 10-2 type predictions with Cam lighting up the SEC based on The 2009 AU QB performance in Gus's system and cams hype.

We knew we had a 5* QB and were very optimistic and excited about him. Nobody knew he would be the GOAT though.
I personally predicted 12-0 with a worst case 10 win season.

Preseason tRant mantra about Cam was "Brent Schaeffer 2.0" because "JuCo QBs NEVER pan out in the almighty SEC"
Then and now tRant spends the off-season downplaying what's poised to be a very good Auburn team with a very good 5* JuCo QB transfer. Some things never change.

A&M was definitely 2015 and 2016 off season champs. 2017 is not a good off season for us, so we'll probably win the real natty.
