'96 Nebraska was loaded. Did you see how bad they whipped Florida in the national championship?

You have to understand something about Alabama and their boosters....they are insane when it comes to the football program. They will spare any expense right now and pay any price (on many levels).

Saban is an organizational genius aside from being a very good defensive coach. That is what sets him apart from all of the other coaches out there except for maybe Urban Meyer who is an offensive savant.

You have a combination of a less than scrupulous booster class...and trust me , they are crooked and a coach who knows his shite and knows how to use unscrupulous people to his advantage.

Barron - overpaid
Ingram - about right
Jackson - overpaid

Bama's lack of sucess from a lot of ex players in the NFL speaks to this as well
The NFL has changed quite a bit. It's so damn specialized that imo, it's harder for even the top talent to straight dominate like they might have 30 years ago. Plus the style of defense that Alabama has played under Saban is quite different than what they have to do in the NFL with their pass happy shite.

Not saying Alabama in the same conversation as those Miami teams as far as NFL success, fwiw.

In terms of NFL talent maybe not

Nebraska was and always will be a great football program during that run
Closest thing to an actual machine

I have no idea what y'all are talking about. And I need an explanation.

But yes, Craig, you need to add the above part.

Quick story that y'all won't care about: My buddies and I have an award at the end of the year for the "comment most likely never uttered in the history of the world before."

Yours would qualify

In terms of talent yes

In terms of an overall program. No. As great as Saban is in instilling discipline and motivating players he has not developed anything close to Nebraska at LSU or Alabama

Quit being such an Alabama redneck and understand something outside of your own existence.
For one thing Bama's accomplishments do not have anything to do with you

They will never understand this. They actually believe that college football does something to improve their lives.

As fan of Tom Osborne's career, and accomplishments on and off the field, I'm still waiting for the actual argument here.

Because an argument can be made that Osborne never built a program, he just maintained what Devaney started. And for much of his 25 years at Nebraska he was ridiculed for his inability to win a major game and lack of success versus Oklahoma. Not to mention his uncanny ability to lose 3 games a year. He also lost 7 bowl games in a row to prior to finally breaking through in 1994.

I understand what he did from 1994-1997. It's amazing. But it's not on some level far above what Saban has done from 2009-present.
